capt. crunch Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 is it your points? Check vacuum hoses too... I was doing reversies in a ford laser when i was younger and a vacuum hose popped off some how, engine cut out and i spent ages trying to figure wtf happened only to find a loose vacuum hose. plugged it on and it started up again Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Where doesn't it spark?? Do you have power to the coil? Do you have power to the points? So if you turn the motor by hand with the ignition on and the dizzy cap off can you see the spark when they open? Either a wire fell off, or its broken inside its insulation. Quote
Old fella Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Check the little wire inside the dizzy from the points to the nut where the coil wire attaches. Had one break in a Ford Anglia under the same circumstances. Cheers. Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Aha! So you used to be hoon in your Fordangle did you?? Ripping it up with tyres squealing and cornering on the door handles... :jamie: Quote
Old fella Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Mate, I just couldn`t help myself. When you`ve got the powaaaa ya just gotta use it. Actually it was a 61 notch back anglia that I slotted a 1500 cortina into. Had head, cam extractors and quad honda 750 carbs and used to go really well. Stopping and body roll was just a bonus. Cheers. Quote
chin70 Posted September 1, 2010 Author Report Posted September 1, 2010 threres power to the coil but no spark coming out the lead! Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 quad honda 750 carbs OMG!! Lookout! Ruunnnn.... Chin which lead do you mean?? The high-voltage lead from the coil to the dizzy or the low-voltage lead from the coil to the dizzy?? Turn on the ignition, take off the dizzy cap and open the points with a flatblade screwdriver a couple of times. You should see a spark. Let us know. Quote
jono1986 Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Chin, open the dizzy cap and get someone to hit the starter and see if the contacts of the points open and close. If you have trouble i can always drive down and help you, if it comes to that. Quote
LukeAE71 Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 thats a real big help cocksuker nice :hmm:  :( :| Quote
ke70dave Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 (edited) Did you use a toilet brush to wipe the skid from the bowl? :hmm: hehe i actually laughed out aloud when i read that. Turn on the ignition, take off the dizzy cap and open the points with a flatblade screwdriver a couple of times. You should see a spark. Let us know. just becareful doing this, i used an allen key to do this last time, got a nasty shock from the coil! my hand/arm was not the same for the next few hours! (note, don't try and adjust the points when the IGN is on) make sure you use something insulated!!! also make sure you havent got any moisture inside the dizzy cap, was it raining when you were doing a skid Edited September 1, 2010 by ke70dave Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 i used an allen key to do this last time :hmm: Ah, love it!! Non-fatal education is a wonderful thing!! (fatal education really makes sure you never repeat your mistakes!) Quote
