mooseman426 Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Got an email today asking me if I have bought my camshaft yet. It is an obvious scam and all similar offers received should be ignored (or tell 'em to get f@$ked. Be creative too, they're trying to steal from you!) Tell tale signs are - broken english - A business operator having hotmail or gmail or similar - Contacting from the other side of the world to try to sell something that can be easily gotten here. If they were really in spare parts they'd know that already They will try to get you to send money via Western Union. DON'T DO IT!!!! Here is the email: -- [email protected] Hello Kindly advise if you still need items as requested as I have in stock for sale. Let me know and I'll get back to you. altezzaclub Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Scams make up some ridiculous part of Nigeria's overseas earnings... 30 or 40% I think I saw. Quote
mooseman426 Posted August 31, 2010 Author Report Posted August 31, 2010 That is a scary figure, 30 - 40%. Obviously there is nothing anyone can do about it other than try not to get caught into one. Think we need to remember, if is sounds too good to be true, it's too good to be true. Quote
altezzaclub Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Think we need to remember, if is sounds too good to be true, it's too good to be true. Goes for every politician and political party too!! :jamie: Quote

ae95- wagon kid Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 got one of those emails yesterday thought it looked fishy lucky i came onto rolla club and saw this post thanks Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 I get them almost daily. If you don't know the person and it has an attachment and its in your junk box, it pays to not even bother opening it. Although I do like sending them replies full of foul language sometimes. We had some try scamming my missus parents resort, using stolen credit card numbers. They always claim to be priests or some shit like that. But alas, some people see what they think is free money and get sucked in. Too good to be true is exactly that. BTW: I have $14,756 dollars in an offshore bank account but I need to deposit it into someone else's account in australia. If you are willing to let me use your account I will give you 30%. I just need to borrow upfront $500 to clear it, if you are interested, PM me. :hmm: Quote

clubby2084 Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 We had some try scamming my missus parents resort, using stolen credit card numbers. They always claim to be priests or some shit like that. Yep, I get one of those almost every week. I work doing night shift in a 4 star hotel. Let me guess is it ?, " I need 3 rooms for 2 nights including transfers and breakfast, please charge this credit card for $10 thousand dollars and after you deduct the amount for the accommodation please transfer the balance to me in cash" (around 9 thousand dollars usually). This is a very vague example. I've seen some for much larger amounts. Glad your inlaws are on to it, I've seen plenty of hotels and their staff fall for it. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Yeah you always know its dodgy when they ask you to refund them into a credit union account. It only happened once when I was living there. But a resort/hotel is always trying to be scammed in some way. Quote
irokin Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 I've posted this on the front page. Definitely not his real address (not that its any surprise), the post code is kinda wrong. Close, but not quite. The only thing I can suggest to prevent this is ask sellers to PM you for your email address or other details. At least that way if they do go to the bother (I don't think they will) we'll have logged their IP and have a little more to work with. Quote
