SLW42 Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 So have you decided to just do a manual conversion and throw a 5k into it yet? Quote
Johnno115 Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 yeh thats a clean ke20 you got there pal!, guessig there would of been an endless supply for those hours :P Its all good mate. Good luck with your build, seems to be alot of knowledgeable people for you to bounce your ideas off, stick at it. Fun times ahead. Quote
GJM85 Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 5k conversion won't be hard.... if you find one out of a corolla she'll be out & in. Otherwise they come out of liteace's and you'll need to swap things liike the thermostat housing and sump. Also if you do find a engine you want to use be sure it is clean running engine. There would be nothing worse than doing all the work only to find you've got a cracked piston.... Quote
wanzl Posted August 30, 2010 Author Report Posted August 30, 2010 So have you decided to just do a manual conversion and throw a 5k into it yet? manual conversion no doubt :P think I'm going to put that in and play around with the 4k for a bit then maybe 4age now thinking if i do pull the engine out should put something in there with biger/more potential but with all the talk of ease of puting in a 5k in that is deffently still in the picture cheers Quote

If you use a t-50 you'll need a k-t bell housing which is not easy to find and unless you do some work to the 4k, won't be worth the trouble. Edited September 2, 2010 by GJM85 Quote
SLW42 Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 A t50 is definately a better box but unless you get a k-t bellhousing you have no hope of getting a t50 behind a k motor :hmm:, i think you hit the nail on the head mate manual ke70 pedal box, spigot bearing, k40(4speed) or k50(5speed), manual tailshaft, gearbox crossmember, clutch cable, oh maybe speedo cable, and bob's your uncle! Good luck Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 Lighten the flywheel before you fit it- knock a couple of Kg off it without going mad. The motor will spin up faster in the lower gears. Quote

SLW42 Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 You need or want a 5speed for a k motor which IS A K50 THIS IS WHAT WE HAVE BEEN SAYING MATE if you can find a k-t bellhousing then your lucky, and NO YOU don't FIND A K-T BELLHOUSING IN A AE71 Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 (edited) Haha- the confusion is between KE70 and K50.... K40 and K50 are the manual boxes in the K series cars. 4speed and 5speed respectively. They can be found in any Kseries car as they get fitted into earlier models, but they have long and short tail sections so the gear levers can be in different places. They have 3K, 4K and 5K motors in them. The K50 is just an overdrive fitted to the back of a K40, so they swap instantly. The Tseries cars and gearboxes are quite different. wanzl Posted October 6, 2010 Author Report Posted October 6, 2010 took a week of work this week and thought id get stuck into pulling the auto box out and also giving me time to go and get my fly wheel lightend :laff: and heavy duty clutch  so far so good just a couple of questions though the inlet vacum line and radiator colling lines they can all be removed ??? i have looked over the manual box and i can't seem to find where they would go in thats if they do!? thanks Quote
altezzaclub Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Ignore the auto's radiator cooling lines, mine are still there and they hold up the battery cable for me! The vacuum emission control system is different between auto and manual, but I remember blocking everything except the charcoal canister and the dizzy vac advance. I cleaned it all up when I fitted SU carbs more recently. Quote
