SCAVMAN Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 hey folk, i was wondering if anyone has tried to upgrade the rear discs on thier ae92? i converted the hubs to discs, now i was wondering if i can swap the front calipers (and discs and so forth) onto the rear without much trouble? has anyone tried this or looked into it? i read up a bunch but havent been under the car myself yet... please shed some light on it for me. Hiro Protagonist Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 First question is, why? Rear brakes do so little of the work that for a light car like the AE92, standard rear discs are probably all you need until you start pushing major horsepower and speed. Quote
ke70dave Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 i am becoming a little worried at users inability to use the wonderful resource that is google.com? punched in "rear disc upgrade for ae92" first link, some good options in here as well as some very good info. http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/showthread.php?t=142 theres a few good threads around that contain disucssions on this. apparnetly the ae92 SX/GTI front discs are actually bigger than JDM ae86 dics!! haha 86 got ripped off by a FWD. Why is that strange though? It's a newer, heavier, more powerful car, of course the brakes are going to be bigger. Edited August 25, 2010 by Hiro Protagonist Quote
ke70dave Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 welll i guess you are right. it makes perfect sense for them to be bigger. just you see so alot of 86 guys in awe of the 86 Jap brakes, when in fact the FWD car (that tends to cop a bit of slack for being FWD) has bigger brakes stock. The 86 guys are in awe of the JDM brakes because they beat the POS drums that the Aus-spec ones got on the rear, and can be swapped across with _relative_ ease. The AE9x brakes, whilst bigger, newer and better, can't (different platform, different hubs, different PCD etc) and therefore are irrelevant. Quote

(disregarding the ability/inability to swap, more the actual size that comes stock) and i am aware of the rear brake situation on jap/ausi ae86s. it was more of a passing comment that is fairly irrelevant, and somewhat offtopic. Hiro Protagonist Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 i like to think that one day i will make the 'rolla powerful enough to get some speed Then upgrade the front brakes first. They do the majority of the braking. Quote
