TomoKE55 Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 The 4k is getting fairly tired, so rather than rebuild i've decided to upgrade to an SR20DET :jamie: Just wondering if anyone knows of somewhere in South Austalia (or could ship to SA) to get engine mouts and gearbox crossmembers to suit, i want it approved so they've got to be legal, no backyard jobs. Thanks for any advice, Tom. Quote
JDM55 Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 (edited) not sure on after market mounts for this set up, but myself and many others on this site have made there own mounts, its not to hard once you have the engine in a decent position, have a search thru the forum theres a fair bit of info in peoples project logs, but before you go jumping in may i sudgest doing some serious research in to the conversion, its not just as easy as slaping in a new motor and away you go,theres many things to consider, some of them being do you have the funds to complete this, the skills? theres many things that will need upgrading, body strengthing being one if you want it legal, suspention upgrades brake upgrades, fuel system upgrades, new exhaust, bigger brakes, new wiring etc etc etc etc, pretty much your putting nissan gear into a rolla, not trying to burst your bubble but being armed with knowledge will most definaley help, i know because I'm in the middle of it and ive been going hard at it for over 12 months now, have a search ,ask questions, gather alot of pics will all help with this conversion, good luck with it if you go ahead....... LXY-642 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 The only price difference would be in the initial purchase of the engine and gearbox that you want to use. As both setup's will require everything else to be changed. But withthe 4age if you look on trademe engine mounts to suit ke30-55 4age get sold on there. But the 4age will require things like inlet exhaust and more to be changed to suit rwd instead of fwd. Whereas the sr20 you'd just purchase a rwd one straight up. I think people tend to say about 5 grand minimum ontop of buying the engine and gearbox if you want to get it all done and engineered. Matt Quote
Sloth Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 All of the things add up, as most people said you need more than just the engine etc. One thing to keep in mind (as you said you wanted it legal) is that you will (probably) need to get it engineered. Check with your local RTA to see exactly what needs to be done, but from what I hear most engineers certificates are at least $500-$1000, so remember to factor that into your budget. Nothing sucks more than getting right to the end of a project right on budget only to realise there is one more giant expense. Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 I have some "backyard jobs" for sale, they come with an engine though. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?s...256#entry461563 Quote
