morning folks, just looking around for a pair of tyres for some wheels i just bought.

they will be up the front so looking for something pretty decent, but don't also want them to last a fair while as they are daily driven etc. (size is 195/50/R15)

suspension setup is fairly decent so i think the tyres should also be decent.

just looking at the option 1 garage website, as they are 2 blocks away from my work.

http://www.option1garage.com.au/NewTyres.htm

they have the Federal 595 RS-R for $140/each which seems pretty reasonable? given the tyres are considerd a "semi slick"?

or they have the admiral tyres for probably cheaper (not checked prices, will ring up on my lunch break).

or there is the kumho ku36 semi slick for a bit more expensive (the 205/50/r15 is $157, so i guess the 195 will be a bit less)

or i can just do what everyone else does and get the bridgestone RE001 for around 140-150 from bridgestone.

so i guess I'm looking for recomendations on the higher end of street tyres both in terms of grip as well as how long they last etc.

the use will be daily driver, as well as "enjoyable" drives through the mountain roads.

road noise isnt an issue, as my diff noise takes care of that.

I've been a fan of Toyo tyres for a decade now, I sometimes run a pair on one end against a pair of some other manufacturuer at the other end and swap them around.

I'd rate their T1-R over Yokohama or Bridgestone, and currently I have Falken up gainst them on the Altezza.

The Falken FK 452 are a good competitor to the Toyo T1-R, just more expensive, and they are both good sports tyres.

A pair of T1-R against a similar Bridgestone used to give either oversteer & bumpsteer at one end and understeer at the other. The second pair of Toyo's added evened the handling out to neutral with great grip.

On the daily scene the KE70 is running Bridgestone Turanza against Falken Sincera, and they are both best described as 'competently adequate'.... :jamie:

Remember with a semi slick for them to perform to there best they have to have abit of heat through them, and they're terrible traction wise in the wet, i reckon get the federals or the toyo's man you wont look back

altezza: toyo T1R hey, do you know where they sell those? a bit of a google reveals prices are fairly reasonable (just other forums). might have to ring around. they have pretty good rating though from the reviews ive read.

Ive got Federal RSR semi's up front but can't comment on them yet as I haven't had a chance to drive on them, should be more than adequate for street use though.

I to wonder about their wet weather performance but the tread design looks quite capable of displacing water....

Can't argue for the price of them....

The KU36 only come in a 205/50/15 and are around $10 cheaper through stylish wheels in Moss st...

I'm in brisbane. so should be plenty of options to get tyres.

where abouts is that "cookie" bloke located from that link you posted.

niz: i am leaning towards to the federals, as like you say for 140 each, gota give them a go.

thanks mate, that would be much appreciated.

I'm gonna drop into this option 1 garage on the way home this arvo, see what brands they can get.

well i thought id let you know how this went.

i ended up with the federal 595 RSR's for $142 each fitted from option 1.

and dammmnn they are grippy!

got my wheel alignment done within the same week, pulled some camber out to preserve the tyres (my commute to work requires 20mins of highway driving, good for chewing out tyres with negative camber)

the tyres are also fantastic in the wet, pushed them fairly hard in the wet the other night, and although they did eventualy understeer (as expected) it was controllable and predictable. straight line breaking is great in the wet though.

so overall i am happy with them, just hope they last a while.

only real drama is that they are so sticky they pick up EVERY rock on the road and flick it under my car....can be a little annoying on gravel patches!! haha
