doecke55 Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Hey i'm thinking of putting a rev limiter on my 4k, how hard is it and what is involved, disy and stuff like that? Quote
jono1986 Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Why?..... Anyway...you could use one of these http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?I...mp;form=KEYWORD But I think you'd need to cut fuel aswell otherwise you'll have unburnt fuel in the exhaust. Just my 2 cents. Quote
Mitch-12 Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 i have a msd 6al on mine it just cuts spark don't worry bout fuel it sorts itself out Quote
Evan G Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 instead of cutting igntion how about using the fuel solenoid as a rev limiter? Quote
jono1986 Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 instead of cutting igntion how about using the fuel solenoid as a rev limiter? You can run the car with that turned off, you just don't let it idle. Quote
SLW42 Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Why would you want to put a limiter onto a 4k use your brain and set a limit of yourself at like 5grand, is the motor standard or fully worked? That is the question, if it is like a thousands of dollars worth of k motor i'd understand Quote
Evan G Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 +1 ive got a shift light set at 5 grand (its been upto 6 but its just noise) even N dumps it stay around 5, what you want is grip! so start lunching at different rpms till you find a rpm range where it doesnt bog down or wheelspin Quote
marksKE25 Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Control of your right foot also controls the rev limit..... Quote
Trev Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Searching works: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=17454 Quote
jono1986 Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 (edited) Searching works: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=17454 If you are going to do it that way, make sure you put earth on 85 of the relay as most new relays are diode protected. Which means the circuit won't work as the current will flow through the diode instead of the coil of the relay. Oh and also if the shift light is LED you can get one of these http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?I...mp;form=KEYWORD which will let you use a very small trigger current. Even further...if you do like these jaycar kits but don't know how to solder electronics and that, I can build them for you and post for a small fee..... Edited August 9, 2010 by jono1986 Quote
ke70dave Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 i tell ya what, my old standard 4k was flat out trying TO 5000 revs, let alone past it!! i had no problem not overreving it:P jono that dc relay kit you just posted is a pretty neat device, i assume its just a transistor driving that relay. though that comes with a nice little PCB. but yeah that kit + a cheap shift light = dodgy rev limiter. and yeah forget about any sort of fuel cut on the carby, and pluss you prolly don't want to be leaning out the engine at all, just switch off the spark, and watch your mufflers explode:) Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 I'm sort of interested to find out how long my relay limiter idea will work. I have suspicions that if you constantly bounced it off the limiter it might burn out the relay pretty quick. Might have to send that dirt circuit guy a PM and see if his is still going strong. ;) Quote
