oh what a nissan feeling! Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 (edited) this is my shorty pajero, i paid $1500 for it a year ago with blown head gaskets. This is the second shorty pajero i have owned, the previous one i jumped regularly, thrashed, took down trees, tried my best to destroy, and it never broke! which is why i bought another one. My last one was red. I spent $1000 on it fully recoed the heads, did timing belt, water pump, basically a brand new whole top end. also did cv boots for rwc. Anyways, drove it for about 6 months, until one day i took it mud bashing, it ate mud due to a non - sealing airbox. A month later it ground to a halt, with a major bottom end knock! sooo..... motor and box come out, motor sold on ebay for $400 due to all the new bits. 2EZEM8 Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 loooks nice mate, always wanted one of them. has the conversion started yet? Quote
beerhead Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 I'm guessing a supercharged Commo motor, but I reakon a hilux 1GRFE with a TRD blower would be the choice for a torque monster 4wd powerplant! Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted August 9, 2010 Author Report Posted August 9, 2010 (edited) yep, vx hsv l67. Was seriously tempted to go the pajero/triton commonrail turbo desiel engine, a mate has a 2009 trition and it hammers, probably would have gone deisel, but I had already purchased the super6. Have not done a whole lot yet, been finishing the crown, will start getting serious soon. adaptors have been here for a few weeks, marks 4wd adaptors $1200 worth, ouch. not worth me making just one though. I have seperated manual gearbox from transfer, I'm going to keep the commodore auto, it is more likely to handle the power. Made some blanking off plates for the manual gearstick, and the clutch master cylinder out of 2mm plate. Edited August 9, 2010 by oh what a nissan feeling! Quote

oh what a nissan feeling! Posted September 1, 2010 Author Report Posted September 1, 2010 Engine ecu wiring for pajero has been removed, and what i need to stay and use for new ecu has been labelled. I bought a service manual for the pajero, it has endless very detailed wiring diagrams, so this was all very easy. Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted September 1, 2010 Author Report Posted September 1, 2010 Ok, here is yesterdays effort. I went over to the oldies and removed the engine and gearbox from the hsv, once again forgot to take the camera. :hmm: Took it home on the ute. removed gearbox from engine. drained oil, mostly onto the concrete  I tried the commodore radiator into the jero, definatelty not a fit due to the steering box being right up front, need at least 100mm off one side. that sux pretty bad, as the commo setup is a good looking bit of gear. These are the hsv extractors, they look good from the outside, but once i pulled them off i found that where they are welded onto the flanges there is massive lumpy weld half-covering the holes! nice effort hsv! And last of all here is a comparison between the ford c4 that i am using in my corolla, and the modern 4 speed 4l60e out of the commo, i think these photos clearly explain why i went with the 3 speed c4. oh what a nissan feeling! Posted September 3, 2010 Author Report Posted September 3, 2010 yesterday I decided to put the new output shaft in the auto, probably the scariest bit of the conversion, but anyways.... bellhousing and rear housing removed, also valvebody and servo removed all underneath clear, time to start on the guts. oil pump out front clutch drum out planetary gears out all apart, happily i didnt have to remove the final bit to get the output shaft out. finally the prize, the old output shaft beside the new. Anyways, i got most of the guts back together, but need a new gasket for the oil pump, so had the stop there for now. I'm also waiting on a stage 2 shift kit thats not here yet, then i can put the valve body back in. :lolcry: Quote

oh what a nissan feeling! Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 yep, go the sunny coast. Transgo reprogramming kit arrived today, with transgo oil pump high-rev kit, and new oil filter. :D should be able to get the auto back together tomorrow if work doesnt hold me up. Quote
Undertaker_is_the_best Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 hey nice build there well done something different Quote
SLO-030 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Great work Matt. The C4's are so compact hey. Can always upgrade to the C6 if the C4 fails. Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted September 13, 2010 Author Report Posted September 13, 2010 Yeh, small gearbox, can be built to 1000hp too. the sr20 bellhousing still needed some serious clearing though. Got the shift kit fitted, was very extensive, lots of new bits, drilling, springs, valves, ect. Also fitted high rpm oil pump kit, which was interesting. gearbox is all back together now, but not yet bolted to transfer case, i need to get a welsh plug for a hole in the transfer case first. Undertaker_is_the_best Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 sounds pretty good should go alright with that stage 2 shift kit Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted September 19, 2010 Author Report Posted September 19, 2010 (edited) both adaptors on and ready join the two joined The commodore front sump is going to be no good in the jero, it needs a rear sump. sump is removed from engine for test fit in jero. I will be using the older vn-vp steel sump as a base for a new one. In an effort to keep dirt out of the motor i wrapped the steel sump gasket in glad wrap, and bolted it back to the motor. Time to test fit. sitting in the bay, i ran out of time to bolt up transfer case crossmember, and properly position motor. It looks to me at this stage that i will have to remove the old brackets off the chassis, as they do not even close to line up with the commo brackets. I have the old man coming over tomorrow for a looksy, and a bit of advice, so we will move it into position tomorrow. :y: :) Edited September 19, 2010 by oh what a nissan feeling! Quote
