Hello again everybody, busy at Uni so have been trolling less recently but still keeping on with the Rolla.

I'm planning on following the Knowledge base fuel tank setup, with the in tank lifter pump going to a surge tank, and a Bosch 044 going to the engine.

Questions are:

- Is the Bosch 044 high pressure too much? It was designed for the 3.0+ liter engines, and long term I'm looking at a 2.0 liter, short term it's the 4K

- If I have my surge tank set up in my boot, are the fuel lines supposed to go through the chassis as they appear in most peoples? Can I run them underneath neatly if I have a top side surge tank?

- Most of the decent nationally made surge tanks are at least 1.5 liters, which seems excessive. At Bursons Auto One the only surge tank they have is a Chinese piece of garbage that looks maybe half a liter. What's recommended?

Advice is always welcome, telling me not to do this or to do that if it's completely irrelevant is not. No rear seats mean my cabin is completely sealed off by a metal plate, so the whole fumes thing isn't an issue, and I'm planning on making a little wall for the surge tank gear to be behind so it's out of sight (As in I don't want a surge tank in the boot purely so I can show people that my car is a fireball, I just don't like getting petrol in my eyes from being underneath my car all the time).

Hey mate, the bosch pump will be fine if your using a fuel pressure reg and will have more than enough flow which is the main issue.

as for the surge tank i would stick to the 1.5 litre, its not that big, but not to small.

and with the fuel line the main concern with running under the car is if its a rubber hose it can be pierced by road debris, so in the chassis

is a good idea or you could use steel bundy tube in a bigger diameter than the standard fuel line

good luck with it all

cheers Justin

1, Thats what a fuel pressure regulator is for.

2, New bundy tube bigger than old stuff, or run rubber hose and cable tie it to the existing bundy tube..... not ideal though.

3, 1.5Lt is fine. I surge tank is basically 'fuel in reserve' so you just have a bit more up your sleeve.

just for reference, the standard fuel presure regulator on my 4age was unable to handle the pressure/flow of the bosh o44 pump.

pressure was far to high, and causing the engine to overfuel itself. that 044 is a monster pump (200L/hour @ 5 bar)

5 bar!!!! thats 72psi. standard 4age fuel presure is ~32psi. no wonder the fuel pressure regulator couldnt handle it!!

if you havent alreay bought that 044 i would seriously be looking at a smaller pump, there is no point pumping fuel around constantly, and at a stupid pressure, if it is not needed.

all the stats on all the bosch fuel pumps are available on the website, so work out your worst case scenario on how much fuel you are going to use, and work out a pump that can supply twice that.

http://www.bosch.com.au/content/language1/...s/fuelpumps.pdf

excess fuel pumping just adds extra heat to your fuel, which isnt great.

oh and not to mention the NOOOIISEEE that comes out of one of these pumps. it will litterally drive you mad.

;) I already bought the 044! Thanks anyway guys, I asked initially after reading one of KE70Daves threads saying he had trouble with it. Never mind!

Setting it up for the BEAMS 3SGE so with a decent FPR it should handle the pressure a bit better than the 4AGE I assume. Where's a good place to get aluminium bundy tube Taz?

and yeah an aftermarket regulator will have no trouble with the 044, i just hope you can put up with the noise!! haha

i got some bundy from the website "Tweakit" it was $30

in fact...i still have it and never used it, so if you want it, you can have it for whatever it sells at including post.

its 8mm stuff i belive, prolly 5m of it, enough for one line up the car.

If you don't get Daves then you can buy it from Enzed, hydraquip, pertek etc. You can alos buy it off ebay. :blinks:
