philbey Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 I'm going to assume that 1k engine mounts are like 3k ones, which are different to 4k and 5k ones...... BUT they are all the same at the end which bolt to the cross member. SO - you just need to make sure you get a 4k or 5k WITH ENGINE MONUTS. hmmm, I used the 3k mounts on mine no problem? what is this issue you speak of??? Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 No Drama's here either... not sure if I used the original KE10 mounts or the ones that came with the 5k, but I don't remember there being much in it. Quote
Felix Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Just use the original ke10 engine mounts. The later ke30 onwards ones are taller. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 hmmm, I used the 3k mounts on mine no problem? what is this issue you speak of??? Between 3k > 4/5k just the passenger side mount is different. Driver side is the same. Its were it bolts to the block - 4/5k have a step in the mount and the bolts go into the block at different levels. IIRC the 3k one was completely flat. Did you maybe space out the step with washers? Quote
silverra23 Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 Oh I remembered one more thing. The bolts holding gearbox bellhousing to engine block went from coarse to fine, or fine to coarse.. can't remember which way it went. So you will need the bolts from the engine you are putting in when bolting it all together. Quote

Hell no, no washers at all. I used the KE1x mounts, I actually intended to use the taller mounts off the 5K to get a bit more room for the dellortos but it didn't fit at all. So perhaps the KE1x mounts differ from the later 3K mounts silverra, the 5K bolts are definitely fine. I actually think they are a super fine, like a 1.25mm pitch instead of a 1.5 pitch (m12 coarse is 1.75). Be careful with this because it is expensive to replace them because of this pitch size. I paid 40 bucks for four m12x1.25x75 long bolts to fit my engine to the stand. Quote
silverra23 Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 yeah the 5k bolts will be fine.. or the 4k ones... what i was saying was don't use the bolts from your 1K on the 4K. Quote

nomis Posted August 29, 2010 Author Report Posted August 29, 2010 Hey guys, Is a 4K-C anythijng like a 4K? And most importantly will it bolt straight in as i just found one to buy. Let me know thanks! Quote
philbey Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 Yes and Yes. C is for the Emissions that some later model 4K's had, but basically the same engine. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 C = Californian emmission standards. :jamie: Quote
nomis Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 Thanks again guys, I Brang the car to my mech and my mech is freaking out if the 5k is legal to Put into the ke10...the swap shouldn't cause any issues right? 5k can be done? Quote

Depending on your state its normally a matter of a capacity increase by %. 3k is 1200cc 5k is 1500cc I'm sure you can work out the % of capacity increase, then check with your local RTA. :D Quote
silverra23 Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Vicroads didn't blink when I did the engine number change in my KE10, though I think they had a bit of trouble getting the number to go into the system as the guy did go looking for a supervisor at one stage. Theoretically any increase in capacity may well require engineering, but there are some that are easier to get away with than others. This is one of those. Quote
