flamingheads Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 I've had this KE70 for about 2 months and so far and I've only done a few minor cosmetic mods. De-stickered, old steering wheel I had, pool ball shift knob, monster tacho mounted dodgily in dash, seat covers & aluminum exhaust tip. The original tip was about 3" long after the muffler and the new one is about 7". It's just siliconed on for a bit of bling bling but it it actually made the exhaust a lot quieter. Current specs are: 4K engine with a cam of unknown specs. It gets power at 3000rpm Extractors 2" Exhaust 1.5" cut springs 14"x 6 Globe Rims E-gay bucket seat Here are some pics from when I picked it up. I picked up a 5K with a weber today that I'll be putting in in the next week or two. I don't have any real plans but dreams are opening up the 5K and getting everything balanced. Getting a front lip, having the small amounts of rust cut out and a cheap white spray job and getting some good suspension when I feel like what I've got is holding me back. More pics up tomorrow. ke70dave Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 thats a neat looking ke70. 5k should go well in it! i thought you said you de-stickered it...whats that UNIT sticker doing there!!haha Quote
flamingheads Posted August 4, 2010 Author Report Posted August 4, 2010 This is how it looked when I picked it up. I was going to take some pics today but found the camera isn't here. Up close it's not too clean but there are no major rust or dents. Current pics up tomorrow hopefully. Quote
flamingheads Posted August 18, 2010 Author Report Posted August 18, 2010 (edited) Slightly later than promised: Next thing to go will be the drift stickers. They're a mission and a half to get off. Edited August 18, 2010 by flamingheads Quote
flamingheads Posted August 18, 2010 Author Report Posted August 18, 2010 I've got the 5K, pulled some bits off to replace seals and gaskets and I'm already forgetting where stuff goes and getting over it. But if I can get my shit together I'll have the 5K in tomorrow and much excitement will be had. I've really been enjoying driving this car and I'll almost be sad to see the old 4K go, hopefully only until I discover the raw power of the 5K. Quote
flamingheads Posted August 19, 2010 Author Report Posted August 19, 2010 Reassemble engine. Break bolt. Rage. Break time. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 looks sweet bro, 5k awesomeness. Is it just bog stock? Quote
flamingheads Posted August 19, 2010 Author Report Posted August 19, 2010 (edited) looks sweet bro, 5k awesomeness. Is it just bog stock? I got it off here a few weeks ago. Link here. It's got a weber of as yet unknown specs, electronic ignition, extractors and 2" exhaust. Edited August 19, 2010 by flamingheads Quote
flamingheads Posted September 2, 2010 Author Report Posted September 2, 2010 (edited) Things have gotten in the way of good old fashioned mechanics lately so here are some shiny bits. I used a wire brush on drill to do the hard bit of the polishing then finished up with cut and polish then some mag cleaner. And a shinyd and unshinyd inlet manifold -> I've got the 5k together and hopefully it'll be going in tomorrow. See how things go. Edited September 2, 2010 by flamingheads Quote
Taz_Rx Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 Wire brush wheels are good for cleaning stuff up, but I wouldn't use them again for polishing, you just create yourself more work as you need to sand out any scratches the wire put in the alloy. As an alternative, get yourself a sanding flapper wheel in about 80 grit to put in the drill (around $5 each for a toll supplier) and use that as the first clean up. You can then get some finer grit flappers to carry on. When I did my 7ke manifold I used 80, 120 and 240 grit wheels, then went to wet sanding. BTW - you can near double the grit of the flapper to know what sort of finish you'll get because they're in the drill. The 240 flapper gives you more of 400-500 wet/dry finsih if you used normal paper. :hmm: Quote
flamingheads Posted September 3, 2010 Author Report Posted September 3, 2010 I had some of that but it couldn't do around the raised bits and I was feeling lazy. I guess I could've used wet and dry paper for the fiddly bits but I was feeling lazy. The cut and polish did a pretty good job of taking the worst of the scratches out though. Quote
flamingheads Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 (edited) Engine swap is happening slowly. Mostly because of my laziness. But I love being able to go to the local parts shop and them having what I need on the shelf for cheap. So different to trying to buy parts for a '73 celica. Anyway I got the 4k out and decided I needed a new clutch. Got that and replaced some gaskets and seals on the 5K. All the new bits are on the 5K, got it hanging over the engine bay and noticed one of the engine mount rubbers is cracked. So I'm waiting a call back about engine mount pricing. edit: $50 new. Pick it up tomorrow or look for a second hand on? Decisions... Edited September 8, 2010 by flamingheads Quote
Taz_Rx Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Another second hand engine mount is still going to be 20+ years old, so quite likely to crak as well. Just fork out the $50 for piece of mind. :D Quote
flamingheads Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 Yeah getting the new engine mount tomorrow. I should really get two but I can't make myself pay another $50 for something I might not need. But engine is all in and just need to connect up the webber and hopefully she'll be starting tomorrow.
