chappo12 Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 hay guys ive been thinking about buying a tilt tray/tow truck for awhile now and wanted to know what other people think? would you be willing to pay a little more to have your car towed by a full enclosed truck? is $80 a tow within 40km to much? I was thinking if i got in good with some of the motorsport people i could tow there cars for a discount as its good for business to be towing high end cars. I have a business plan and everything but i value everyones thought on rolla club. I would offer special rates to rolla club members. Summernats time i would have a special aswell. I live in the ACT. the mods can move this to what area it suits best. cheers guys Quote
ke70dave Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 40km is a fair way! and 80bucks seems pretty cheap. i recall my mate and i getting towed about 60km (at 1am....), and it cost about 300 bucks. and i got towed less than 2km, and it was 90 bucks...but i got ripped but didnt have any other options at the time. philbey Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 Don't you need a ticket and registration for tow trucks? could be some nasty legalities if you were just freelancing on the sly. Quote
chappo12 Posted August 3, 2010 Author Report Posted August 3, 2010 yea fully enclosed like the motorsport teams have. that way the car is safer. i would like my main business to be high end cars. i'm happy to take on daily cars that are willing to pay though. hmmmm ok well i could maybe help out at my hill climb club and advertise there. so should i make it more of a hook up charge of $70 and then $5per km. Trev Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 Don't you need a ticket and registration for tow trucks? could be some nasty legalities if you were just freelancing on the sly. Ticket and registration? You only need to be licensed in accident recovery. Quote
chappo12 Posted August 3, 2010 Author Report Posted August 3, 2010 Not in the ACT. and it would be full legit. i get my rolla towed for $70 and thats about 20kms Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 Ticket and registration? You only need to be licensed in accident recovery. Although that could vary state to state! :( Quote

I reckon that that would be a pain in the ass, you would wanna make fold out sides so you can access the car to strap it down. If you are going to make money out of that then why not. Quote
Trev Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 Although that could vary state to state! :( So anyone with a tow truck can rock up to an accident? Quote
chappo12 Posted August 3, 2010 Author Report Posted August 3, 2010 yea i still don't know if i want it enclosed or not. would you guys use me if i was in your area. for $70 hook up and $2.50 per km after 10kms i think that sounds fair. i would make it cheaper if your on rolla club. Quote
ke70dave Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 i would make it cheaper if your on rolla club. yeah but how many rollas are in ACT? and how many of them are on rollaclub? and how often are they going to require a tow? I'm gonna guess hardly ever! if my corolla breaks down, id prolly leave it where it is, untill the next day, where i would come back with some spanners, after visiting the wreckers for the part i need. rather than call a tow truck. the ~$100 is worth more to me than the annoyance of running around getting parts. For others this may not be the case. On one ocasion my car broke down, i hired a car trailer for 50 bucks and towed my car home with my mates sisters commondore:P i think the key is to work with workshops, get yourname out there as good service in your area. maybe ask workshops if they can use you as their prefered service or something. chappo12 Posted August 3, 2010 Author Report Posted August 3, 2010 lol my clientel wouldnt be just rolla club............. just say ing I'm happy to help any one out on here. just asking if your car was broken down would you pay what I'm asking. could be a high end sports car could be any thing not just a rolla Quote
parrot Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 Not wanting to put you off, but towing and heavy handed business practices apparently often go together.... Especially in accident recovery. Something you may wish to think about. Regarding rates, I happily paid $80 to get a car towed about 15km in Melbourne on a tilt tray. Quote
