GJM85 Posted November 2, 2011 Author Report Posted November 2, 2011 How much do you want for the gearbox man? I'm interested for sure. Quote
GJM85 Posted November 11, 2011 Author Report Posted November 11, 2011 So my old man went right through the gearbox and it seems ok. Turns out I never put any oil in it. :dippie: So after doing 40km with a oilless k50, I won't be mentioning that again. Giving up on the 38 weber for now due to air speed or lack of and it'll cost me a bit to much to rejet and change the aux venturis, so i've spent the last couple of days working on a 4k carb from a ke55. I've removed all the pollution gear, bunged off the vacuum ports, cleaned and put a reuild kit through it. I have a 3k carb and a late ke70 carb for spares and comparison as well. The jet sizes are as follows (pri/sec). ke20 3k - 102/162 ke55 4k - 108/153 ke70 4k - 106/153 I'm going to use the 162 as a secondary and i'll drill the 102 out to 125 for the primary. Here's some pics of my makeshifft workshop, the jets and the moded 4k carb. Quote
Des Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 Ive got a 5k carby here if ya want it. Its missing the jets but other than that its all there. Quote
GJM85 Posted November 27, 2011 Author Report Posted November 27, 2011 (edited) Ive got a 5k carby here if ya want it. Its missing the jets but other than that its all there. Hey des, it be awesome if you knew what size jets were in the 5k carb. It'd give me a better idea of what to use in this. """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" I'm gonna make this quick. Not a happy camper. Here's how it went down. Pulled the timing cover off the 5k to check and dial in the cam. It was 1 tooth retarded. Pulled it a part. Got impatient and cracked the 104 cam trying to turn it. Pissed off! Justin came over. "Yep! Probably shouldn'a done that....", so he got Phil. Phil had a spare 4K. Thanks Phil! Stock cam in. Timing right. Timing cover won't go on without kinking the sump gasket. Then broke the new timing cover gasket. Pulled everything off, drain sump, donk out. Sump off, new gasket, timing cover on, sump on... HAD ENOUGH FOR TODAY. Edited November 27, 2011 by GJM85 Quote
Evan G Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 you should have used selant on the timing cover. much easier to install than a gay gasket I'm guessing you used a screwdriver and tried to pry it off? next time wiggle wiggle wiggle or use 2 screw drivers (one on each side) Quote
GJM85 Posted November 27, 2011 Author Report Posted November 27, 2011 ld of set the f@$king thing on fire already.... Quote
Evan G Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 dw mate, its all a learning curve Quote
GJM85 Posted November 29, 2011 Author Report Posted November 29, 2011 (edited) So I got the stock cam in on Sunday. Then yesterday I got the engine all back together and back in the car. Today I did the oil, coolant and put the 4k carb on. I can't get it to idle below 1400rpm. The timing is dead on so it must be a vacuum leak, though I honestly wouldn't have a clue where. I took it for a strap down the road and it hauls arse. I actually thought the engine would be lazy without the cam, but it pulls real hard. Happy for a change... Edited November 29, 2011 by GJM85 Quote
Evan G Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 The dash pot is holding the butterfly open It's that little vacuum actuator on the rhs of the carby Quote

GJM85 Posted December 12, 2011 Author Report Posted December 12, 2011 (edited) Didn't realize you had 3 kids. More info on this 1J '28 ford ? Yeah, 2 sons and custody of a niece from the wifes side of the family. 3 kids under 5. 8/ But yeah. The old man aquired an xf ute dragster with a complete 1j-z, plus extras, spooled diff and rebuilt C4, although no bellhosing. A big ʞ©$ɟ off turbo, waste gate... heaps of turbosmart gear. Brakes, ecu and lume. All in all at the very least, 6k worth of gear after we stripped the ute down. He has since aquired a complete fibre glass body of a '28 Model A roadster. His plans are to make a salt racer/dragster. His own chassis, cage & suspension design. This is far from the first dragster he has built by the way. Will be epic! 8D Edited December 12, 2011 by GJM85 Quote
