GJM85 Posted July 17, 2011 Author Report Posted July 17, 2011 (edited) Would be pretty hard to crack a sump without hitting something. did you end up repairing the carby flange? Must have really cranked it up to crack it. Best way would be to weld it and get it machined flat. Bolt it up to a plate and tack it, then pull off and weld the rest There is a small dent next to the drain hole. I got the sump of an old 4k that was sitting around. It's just enough to prevent the gasket from sealing properly. I used double washers this time. Hopefully it works. :glare: I did manage to get the carby fixed. We found a local guy working out of his shed doing cashies. He had samples of his workmanship like a piece of 3mm alloy checker plate welded into a cast iron mower body. This guy had the skillss. He welded the piece back on inside and out then used the die grinder to smooth out the inside of the throat and the flange. I left the throttle shaft in and once he had welded it removed it and changed the seals. Just to make sure the body didn't warp to much and we couldn't get the shaft back it. It cost $70 for the repair. I'll get some pics during the week while its off. Edited July 17, 2011 by GJM85 Quote
GJM85 Posted July 25, 2011 Author Report Posted July 25, 2011 (edited) Busy day today, thanks to the wife for driving me across the country and putting up with my shit! I took a big spill on the weekend and now my leg is in a cast. Went to get an CT scan today but got shafted because it's Logan Hospital. So we went down to Autobahn Slacks Creek and got a new a new Super Charge battery, it's to big to fit in the little batery tray so i'll need to make some modifications. From there I went over to Right Price exaust and bought the kit I need to make the exaust system. 2m of 2" pipe, 4 mandrel right angles, 4 flanges, 2 gaskets and bolts to suit, a Super Cat 15in glass pack muffler and 4 exaust mounts. Then it was to SuperCheap Marsden for some new Bosch Super Plus spark plugs to run with the Street Fire Ignition and a 2 inch angle cut tail pipe. Then it was to Brown Stains for lunch. Urban Burger on Main St is awesome, then to Autobahn there and got 25ft of black Heatshield exaust wrap and some Heat resistant silicon paint. Then to SuperCheap Brown Plains for some hose clamps to fit the exaust wrap. What a day.... I got the headers wrapped and they look the part. I'm just going to be running a 2inch system straight through, over the diff into the muffler with the chrome angle tip. Should look SUPER RACE! Cheers. And here's a pic of the repair work done to the Solex. Edited July 25, 2011 by GJM85 Quote

GJM85 Posted July 27, 2011 Author Report Posted July 27, 2011 (edited) Today I fitted the "early & adjustable" points dizzy, new condenser and breaker points. So damn original, it still has the clear adjustable advance cap and the dust cover that goes under the dizzy cap. My old man works at a school and has kept a overrated as 4K there for demos (good for parts) . I modified the battery stand so the truck battery fit in (480 cold cranking amps), then I made the 'generic' battery clamp work and I installed the bosch super plus plugs and the Street Fire ignition control. Once finished, I started on the door cards. Having a f@$ked foot has its advantages... Then the beer came. :dancetall: This weekend the 2" straight through exuast gets done and hopefully WE can see this for real! ;) Edited July 27, 2011 by GJM85 Quote

GJM85 Posted July 27, 2011 Author Report Posted July 27, 2011 I wish. Unless the transport department is open on Sunday I can't imagine she'll hit the road for another week or two. Quote

GJM85 Posted July 30, 2011 Author Report Posted July 30, 2011 Got the hard part of the exaust done today. Thanks to JP for his mad stitching skillz. Flanged at the headers. Two and a half 90 degree bends. Extractors went on, then off again about 10 times to get that far. Should have it all finished off tomorrow. :laff: Hopefully get them carbs back on and get it running right. The final decision is a 2 inch mandrel bend system, over the gearbox cross member, 12inch Lukey Performance hotdog, over the diff, 15 inch Super Cat glass pack with a chrome angle cut tip. NOICE! Oh! And it's cheaper to buy a Nissan Exa with a CA-18DE 5 speed than it is to by a CA-18. 300 bucka! with targa top! Quote
CA-ROLLA Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 No worries broski! Happy to help out, but the exa is just a little bit gay?? I know you guys love it, but come on haha  Quote

GJM85 Posted July 31, 2011 Author Report Posted July 31, 2011 Finished the exaust yesterday. Got the thing started and it sounded like a tractor. Bad Bad Bad. After everything i've done, I decided to take the head off. Everything looks sweet except for the wobbly pistons. Turns out my original measurements were shit house. :glare: The block has an overbore of 20 thou and I used standard pistons. I'll show you what it sounds like. SLAPPITY SLAP SLAP! I'll upload some pics and video this arvo. Quote
GJM85 Posted August 3, 2011 Author Report Posted August 3, 2011 (edited) Pulled the donk today. Got the pistons out. They are for sale. The bore is still very clean so i'm pretty lucky the pistons didn't break. Edited August 3, 2011 by GJM85 Quote
