tim_kz Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 (edited) I am repairing my daughter AE82. I have the passenger side drive shaft out as it seems to be loose in the transaxle. I want to check the dimensions of the inner shaft as goes into the gearbox ? The previous owner did many bodgy things to this car. Tim Edited July 31, 2010 by tim_kz Quote
Rolla Boy Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 You're prolly best off removing the drivers side shaft also and comparing the two... Also, check the spline condition on the shafts aswell as inside the box... Also, check the splines inside the hubs as they may be worn and slipping... Get some vernier calipers and check all your measurements... Quote
clubby2084 Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 (edited) I found the same play in the transaxle of my AE82 when I did the rack ends. Mine is an automatic and was in Park, when I jacked both wheels off the ground the trans disengaged the trans lock allowing the wheels to spin freely (in Park). That's when I noticed the play in the transaxle. Put the car back on the ground allowing all the weight back on the front wheels, you should find most of the slack gone.
