wangtastic Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 (edited) Hey guys. I'm having a real nightmare atm with my e12 corolla. Basically I've been told my backbox is on its way out so I went down the scrappies and pulled a universal fit one off a Corsa for £25. :) :) :D However, I've been trying to get a garage to fit it for me and I'm not having very much luck at all. :( I've been told by a very friendly mechanic that the "mounts" are different and they need modifying. My question to you guys is can this be achieved easily? like is there some sort of adapter I can buy or something like that? I'm not a very technical person but have plenty of friends who would happily help me should any technical skill be required. :D Thank-you in advance for any advice given. ;) Steve. wangtastic Posted July 28, 2010 Author Report Posted July 28, 2010 indeed I do! sorry I'm a bit British and we have retarded naming systems! :) Quote
Twinky Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 Dude I changed my muffler in the space of an hour. Learn how to weld, cut off the original mount on your muffler and weld it onto your new muffler. Easy. Apart from that a muffler or exhaust shop should do that easily. Quote
ke70dave Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 i was fairly convinced you were talking about a steering box! and wondered why a corsa would have a steering box! but yeah muffler, just take it to an exhaust shop, and if they say they can't do it....they suck. go to the next exhaust shop! twinky has it right, just a few minuites with a welder and an angle grinder and a few rubber ring mounts and you'll be away again. Twinky Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 Wait hold on a minute. You wouldn't be talking about a diff would you? cause thats a different story altogether. Post a picture of what you mean. Quote
jono1986 Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 Google it, it is a muffler, and not everyone can go out and buy a welder. Steve get one of your mates to have a look at it, the muffler should just be welded on where the last one was and do the bracket as per original. Take a photo of the original setup and the new 'backbox' then we can be a little more descriptive. Jono Quote
wangtastic Posted July 29, 2010 Author Report Posted July 29, 2010 thanks for the replies guys! yeah the exhaust shops I've been to have been saying the muffler mounts aren't the same on the corolla as they are on the muffler. hence them not wanting to fit it. can the muffler still be fitted? do I just need to modify it? I'll take some pictures as soon as I can. thanks for the help so far! :) Quote
