Alright, so a few questions..

I have two old car batteries, a 13" rim from a Mazda 323, an old pushbike and probably a few other pieces of metal laying around.. What kind of money would I get at a scrap metal recyclers?

I know they do it by the KG, but I cannot seem to find any definite prices..

Most places wouldn't waste time with less than a mixed tonne, or significant small quantities.

sorry bud.

you might get 80c for each battery, and about 200/tonne on steel. that's about 20c /kg

not worth driving it there...

copper on the other hand is worth scrapping!

my dad is a marine electrician, and he has a drum in the workshop where he throws all the excess wire in there.

every few months goes down to the scrap hard, gets a few bucks, maybe $30 each trip?

not bad for something that you would normall throw away.

you should give these guys a ring

get some real prices! you wont find prices on websites, because the prices are variable. so id say they change each day etc.

Wow is that what it's gone down to? Ouch! 12-18months ago they were paying as much as $12 a kilo.

Alluminium is worth nothing now we were getting over $100 for 3 200ltr drums now it's hard to get people to even take it.

I did a run on Friday, got 11c a kilo for pressed steel (car bodies)

2.10 a kilo for insulated copper wire aand about 3.50 a kilo for plain copper (radiator and heater cores)

not worth doing. :lolcry:

I remember about 10months ago, Sims metal here in adelaide were offering me $90/tonne (9c/Kg) for a car body.

Went elsewhere and got something like 14.5c/Kg. 80 something bucks for about 600kg.

Might pay to have a look around.
