madKE35coupe Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 (edited) hey guys. young bloke in town drives (well used to) a 1977 KE35 coupe, which blew a head gasket a few weeks back. i had been asking him about it for a while, and once the gasket blew he called me up and asked me if i wanted it. is $500 too much for it? its a manual running a 3k, paint is almost perfect, and from what i can gather the only spot of rust is just under the fuel cap. what does everyone think? also engine parts arent an issue if i need them, as i have 2 3k's and 2 4k's at my disposal. Toy-Yoda[RL] Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Very much yes, take it, his loss is your gain. :laff: Quote
SLW42 Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Yes jump on it mate if it is as clean as you say it is bud, jump on it you wont regret it, every bargain i've found has never been as overrated as what you say the example of a rolla you have on offer Quote
Taz_Rx Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 (edited) Yeah do it. The headgasket will cost less than $100 to fix yourself, but if you've already got spare engines you might as well throw in a 4k instead of fixing the 3k for a bit more poke. :laff: Edited July 19, 2010 by Taz_Rx Quote
madKE35coupe Posted July 19, 2010 Author Report Posted July 19, 2010 well it looks like i might be picking it up today! the only thing that isnt real great on it is the seats, which are the material type. i will just out seat covers on them though. roof lining, floor carpet, and boot carpet have all been replaced lately. and the dash only has 1 crack in it! blktoy35 Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 where is the car located I'm making an offer lmao jk... $500 can't go wrong considering its sounds to be well kept for its age.... u got to expect some issues the cars 30+ yrs old..... Quote
corollaart Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Well i would be thinking its rubbish don't go near it :blinks: .Best pm me the details and i will take good care of it for you. Â :laff: ;) :blinks: Quote
madKE35coupe Posted July 20, 2010 Author Report Posted July 20, 2010 hey guys picked the car up this arvy! bloke couldnt remember what price he had quoted me, so i said it was 400-500 ish. so he said fair enough 450 sounds good, so 50 bucks cheaper than what we had originally thought! and also, i have a feeling that it might not even be a head gasket. the day it started playing up was a few weeks ago on monday, which was the coldest day of the year so far. i have a feeling that the battery may be cactus, because i turned the key, and it made that rapid ticking sound that I'm sure you have all heard. which usually means the battery doesnt have enough charge to turn the motor over? Quote
jono1986 Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Man that's a good price, i picked mine up for 400 and the only thing wrong with it was the exhaust gasket was leaking, 8 bucks later all fixed. Rapid ticking most probable cause is flat battery or stuffed solenoid Quote
madKE35coupe Posted July 20, 2010 Author Report Posted July 20, 2010 so this could turn out to be alot cheaper to fix than i originally though. well wont know the full details till i have a looksie tomorrow. i already have big plans for this thing, its got potential Quote
SLW42 Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Try changing the battery 1st to see if that works and then if not put some pictures up, so those of us who envy you right now can see your bargain :) Quote
madKE35coupe Posted July 20, 2010 Author Report Posted July 20, 2010 trust me i will definitely take some pics tomorrow. might get a chance to swap some stuff from my rolling one if its worth changing too. hope its just the battery. what are the usual symptoms of a blown head gasket? Quote
SLW42 Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Take the oil cap off and if it's a chocolate milkshake only runny it's gone, lack of power, probably more but i'm not sure on k motors just check the oil to start with Quote
jono1986 Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Is air bubbles in the radiator another one or? Quote
