Kid-Ae Posted July 31, 2010 Author Report Posted July 31, 2010 Oh mad as man :lolcry: I'll be doing that tomorrow with luck! Update: 2" CAT back exhaust booked in for Tuesday morning :hmm: (And I thought I wasn't going to do anything for a while..) Quote
Kid-Ae Posted August 3, 2010 Author Report Posted August 3, 2010 Update: Exhaust in, included for no extra was a VT SS tip worth $90. Sounds SO much better :( Quote
Kid-Ae Posted August 19, 2010 Author Report Posted August 19, 2010 Right.. Bucket is about due for a little time spent on her.. Not necessarily money, don't actually have any.. Suggestions as to what I could do? I've pressure washed engine bay, replaced air, fuel and oil filters, tensioned the belts, but still cannot seem to get the carby to run nicely.. It feels at times like it has nothing, then all of a sudden it decides to go.. Quote
Bamboo Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 Some shit floating around in the carb? Carby cleaner the insides, start it up with out the air filter rev it up, and place your hand over the top of the carb as it's revving. It'll suck your hand down and almost stall. Pull your hand off before stall and repeat. It may not fix it, but it's cheap and easy to do. You never know your luck. As for other stuff to do? Take a leaf out of the overrated ke 70s (ben) book and detail the crap out of everything. Car detailing stuff expensive? Most kitchen stuff will work with a little experimentation. Those cream oven cleaners are a favourite. (hint, raid your mums cupboard!) Quote
Kid-Ae Posted September 15, 2010 Author Report Posted September 15, 2010 (edited) Cheers Bamboo, gave it a shot and it seems to have done the trick. Running pretty nicely. Contemplating replacing the gearbox with an over-drive variant. Believe it all bolts up the same, the extra gear would be nice on the freeway. Toying with the idea of sprucing up the cam cover.. May pinch one from the wreckers and have a go polishing/spraying it, just to add some flavour to the bay. Also looking at respraying other engine components, and may spend a full day in the engine bay with a parts cleaning brush and de-greaser to scrub EVERYTHING. Got a feeling the current cam cover has a slight leak. Also going to sand back, prime, repaint and clear coat all the flakey paint/specs of rust hanging around. Being a beach car for a few years has taken its toll.. Leads me to ask. Recommended paint brands? Aussie export is cheap stuff and all, but the primer is what I want in a good quality. Found that out the hard way.. Driving down Swansea Rd, mate in the passenger seat (drunk at the time) was winding the window down and it dropped.. We left it there for the night.. Next day, pulled the door trim off to discover the rail that holds the window to the winder mechanism was rusted through and snapped in half, letting the window go. 20 minutes of fiddling at the wreckers and a gold coin donation and it was fixed. Going to pull the other trims off tomorrow afternoon and inspect the doors to check for anything similar going on and catch it before I get caught short. Edited September 15, 2010 by ROLLA'BOY Quote
Kid-Ae Posted September 15, 2010 Author Report Posted September 15, 2010 ALSO! I've got this problem.. I went to take the roof racks off (funnily enough, they are ROLA roof racks) to find out the gutters aren't holding the black plastic strip on anymore.. Unfortunately, I have to leave the roof racks on for it to stay there.. Not sure what to do? Might have a look tomorrow, think the former owner has damaged the rails.. Quote
Ben-89 Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Any more updates on this little rocket Sam? Looked like there was progress beginning to happen. What were you stung for the exhaust system out of curiousity? Quote
Kid-Ae Posted March 24, 2011 Author Report Posted March 24, 2011 Bout time I got back on here :) Exhaust was $198 fitted, sounds mean and I never get sick of the stares I get with it :) As of yesterday, now has a tacho dash pinched from a AE93 SECA, so much nicer to know that my idle speed is only around 650rpm, mind you, an extra gear would be nice.. Not sure what to do engine wise.. Can't do a conversion (being on P's bites) so contemplating extractors.. Thoughts? Worth the cost? Maybe get bigger cams and rejet the carby? Needs more poke.. But I don't want to compromise economy (right foot has been kind lately). Any ideas on the difficulty in dropping the 4spd auto into it? Probably new ecu, minor interior mods (4spd shifter). She's still running like a Zertec, but that modding bug really has bitten me hard, so i've been blowing money on other luxuries to stop myself doing an engine conversion (new laptop, new iPod etc). Pics of new dash up tomorrow with luck :) Haha Alix, race on! But yours is newer, yet mine has 15,000km less and sounds a little meaner ;) Quote
Kid-Ae Posted March 24, 2011 Author Report Posted March 24, 2011 On another note, picked up a brand spankin' new Pioneer headunit, new Alipine front speakers, installed some speakers in the rear and fitted the sub. Not a lot of AE92's running around like mine, I love when people stare funny when my exhaust and stereo are competing for noise pollution :) Quote
Kid-Ae Posted March 25, 2011 Author Report Posted March 25, 2011 Rims? Tinted tail lights? Suggestions? (remember, keeping spending within reason, I'm not earning a whole lot right now, but this car thing is freakin' infectious!) Cheers, Sam :) Quote
ke70dave Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 i would save up and buy some wheels and some good tyres. Quote
Ben-89 Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 (edited) i would save up and buy some wheels and some good tyres. I'm with Dave on this one, BUT don't tint your tail lights as it may be illegal.I do have a solution though, look for a 1981 to 1991 Holden Nova (Series one) as they will have the same profile tail lights but are naturally tinted from factory to differentiate from the Corollas  And that black trim that clips below the base of the rear window, pop it off and wash it out under there. The accumilation of dirt causes these tail gates to rust :y: Edited March 25, 2011 by "The Mint KE70" Quote
Kid-Ae Posted March 26, 2011 Author Report Posted March 26, 2011 Cheers mate, going to do a wreckers run today to have a look-see for some of them tail lights :) (Already pulled that trim off and cleaned it crazy, amazing what lives under there..) Now.. Where should I go for rims? I don't want to spend a fortune but I do want to go 16 or 17 with some somewhat thin rubber wrapped around. Want to get the rims sorted soon as possible before I spend money on something else.. Down the track i'll be looking at getting it dropped about 1.5", so I want to get wheels that will look the part, no point getting them if they aren't going to be pure porn. Quote
Kid-Ae Posted March 26, 2011 Author Report Posted March 26, 2011 Got rims? :) 15's with Goodyear F1's on the front and Hancooks on the rear, only stung $500 fitted, pretty happy :P Quote
