rjenman Posted August 25, 2005 Author Report Posted August 25, 2005 thanks for that, very insightful :D Yeah Nick I measured the ride height as it is, stock, and its about 20cm off the ground. If king low's are 4cm drop, thats almost a quarter of the way down to the ground. A nice and safe 6cm away from the legal limit. Very speedbump friendly too The top of the front tyres are about 8cm below the visible lowest point of the front arches, the rear tyre and arch have a 6cm gap. Going by these calculations, half of the space at the front gone and almost all of the space at the back would make for a phat look. I mean there are those cars that have their rears buried in the arches and the fronts only just scraping through, but I don't think its worth the pains associated with it. Honestly no, I'm not really that serious about handling. I don't have that attitude towards cars. I'm happy with it being GOOD as opposed to being a fussy competitive bitch. Therefore I wouldn't really worry about factory springs being too soft as you reckon jamie. BTW getting lows as opposed to superlows would make it a more comfortable ride! My car is not a racecar. Its just my much loved Corolla :) I mean, why have a really uncomfortable ride just to look good... thats pretty sad. So yeah to sum it all up, at the moment king lows are looking the goods. On another note, I've put the monroe GT gas shocks in the back of the car, I have to say it feels a LOT smoother and holds the road a LOT better. Keeping in mind I was driving with one shock completely disconnected before, but hey. Nah its definately an improvement and worth the money :D Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 the thing is, you lower a corolla more than 2 inches and you start to f@$k with the ideal geometry of the damper insert, so it becomes necessary to run short stroke inserts. so you don't get "ricer bounce" and you don't wear your shocks out within a few thousand km now you can be dodgy and space your short strokes like half the idiots on toymods do, or you can do it properly and have your struts shortened. and while the spring seat is off, you may as well spend the extra <$200 and get coilover sleeves welded on, which means you need small diameter springs, negating the need for superlows in the first place superlows are the stupid ricer spring that might make your car look good (depending on what it is and what you consider good) but ideal for handling, they ain't personally, i think most brand name springs are too soft if you're serious about handling. if you're buying new, it only costs an extra $20 or so to have customs made up to any rate you like so i'd just do that, and keep it at a sensible, useable ride height so you can still use stock dampers and have a good setup but keep the costs down at the same time "ricer bounce" ya my tits got to hurting after driving the cricket 1,800 miles.... i need a bro Quote
Super Jamie Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 um, no. you need to verse up on the seinfeld hey Quote
mumblezzz Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 ST205 celica GT4 fronts and Suzuki Sierra fronts in the rear baby. f@$k QLD transport, stiff, low and short stroke all the way. No one sees the underside of your car anyway so scrape it everywhere. :D Post may be induced by alchohol.... Quote
Super Jamie Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 haha, go railing in your ke70 or just spend 10k putting the thing on bags, PHAT Quote
rjenman Posted August 27, 2005 Author Report Posted August 27, 2005 Like this? i wonder if the operation on the dog would be more expensive than the bagging and tubbing no, but seriously, this is about how it SHOULD look with a 40mm drop: before after and after i think its an improvement, but after all its only a photochop Quote
rjenman Posted August 27, 2005 Author Report Posted August 27, 2005 and oh yes, now i remember kramer's invention :D Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 phew, for a minuite there, i thought you were gonna sit in the back seat and fondle my chest!! Quote

Excuse my incompetence, but are you saying that your using those strut inserts and shockers as a short stroke alternative to a standard corolla setup? If so, are they just bolt up items (no major modifications)? I've just starting researching short stroke shocker alternatives for my KE30. As I am yet to find someone that makes such an item. Quote
Super Jamie Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 yes, and i doubt it. the proper way to short stroke is to chop and weld the struts don't even waste your time shortying corolla struts, if you're at the stage where you need better handling than stock geometry provides, chances are you need better brakes too. you'd be better changing to corona struts on ae86 power steer arms or something, more scope for upgrade, stronger stub axles too Quote
rjenman Posted August 28, 2005 Author Report Posted August 28, 2005 something's wrong with my pictures Quote
