B.L.Z.BUB Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 Whoever can identify this cam gets crowned the all time Rollaclub "King of Cams". Its for a 4K. I've searched the web to no avail. Its stamped 298S LM (or LM 198S?) The photos are in high resolution for closer inspection. Can take more if needed. Thanks guys. Reed. Quote
Twinky Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 Old fella on this forum has an identical camshaft. Link to topic http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=30929 Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted July 17, 2010 Author Report Posted July 17, 2010 Ha ha! that's where I got it from... Damn. Maybe I should just throw it in... Quote
Twinky Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 Yeah just do it! I've tried everything in my searching abilities and come to no avail. I've even gone through lists of different manufacturers. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a 298 degree cam. The LM stamp has me stumped as I have not come across any manufacturers with this stamp. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted July 17, 2010 Author Report Posted July 17, 2010 How would 298 degrees work though? My E7 is a daily. Quote
Twinky Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 Doubt it would work very well. But hey i'm probably wrong anyway, only way to find out is to measure it like how it was said in the other topic thread. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted July 17, 2010 Author Report Posted July 17, 2010 Damn. I'l See if anyone else has any ideas but if its been covered I'll probably be out of luck. Tho a massive cam and a weber... I could put up with that :D my daily drive is only 20mins. Get there in style :) Quote
tojo2 Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 make a cradle to rotate it in and measure it, then youll know what youve got Quote
altezzaclub Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 I'm with Tojo- Set it up with a dial gauge and a circular protractor and measure the lobes. You will get all the cam timing off it and will probably find it in some cam grinders specs. 298deg will be pretty well up there in terms of revs, a bit hard for a daily. Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 Hi, Not sure of cam but it is pretty big if it is 298 deg. I run 271 degree in my 5K makes power from 4000 RPM to 7500 RPM with slight heap de-burring and porting, extractors and twin stock asian carbies. Would be best suited to side draft carbies this cam (that's why I got it) with more degrees like your cam you would NEED twin side draft carbies. I also run low diff gears 4.33:1 gears. So I sit on 4000 RPM at 100km/h so put foot down I go. Cam is on verge of mmm not a daily the one I have so Id say yours wouldn't be a good choice for a 4K daily. Also mine has a pretty rough idle :) wose than expected but twin carbies will settle it down and they sucka lot of fuel so not good for a daily..LOL Also in comparison going off 298 deg your cam is similar to 474 grind here: http://www.tighecams.com.au/cars.htm Cheers Cameron Quote
Old fella Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 G`day all, that cam is the one that i asked about a long time ago and I never did find out diddly squat about it. It originated from a friend of mine who used to race a ke20 with a 4k in it many, many years ago. He can`t remember what grind etc it is but suggests that it could be one of his "sponsored" cams and one of those was Leo Muller. I doubt very much that it would be as lumpy as 298 degree because it was used in short curcuit sprints on the old Echo Valley track in Toowoomba and anyone that knows the track will remember that it was up and down hills to the point that you would not be able to run a "mongrel " cam and still have the lowdown grunt for the hills. He was also restricted to using a Manufacturers carby and the only mod allowed to that was altering the linkage setup to run mechanical secondaries in favour of vacuum. I have that carb and have tried it on the road and found that its no good for street because it is either full on or full off and not much in between. I reckon you should work late on your car friday night, stick it in, bolt up the weber and give it a try. Then if it doen`t work you`ve got the rest of the weekend to stick the stock bump stick back in. Cheers mate and good luck. Quote
Scoobzd Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 If it came from the USA I would suggest that you talk to Richard Fritz of ameriSPEC Corporation in Connecticut @ (203) 744-0844 for information on LM camshaft profiles and performance in the engine of a street machine. Quote
Sloth Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 If all else fails, turn it into a piece of artwork. There was a house around the corner from where I used to live that had (what I think was) a camshaft from a truck engine as the talk for the mailbox. Quote
philbey Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 (edited) Put it in and see what it does damnit! I still don't know what mine is but it's big and breaks springs and I've been driving if for 18 months! Minus 3 months for broken spring downtime..... Edited July 18, 2010 by philbey Quote
