Gspec Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 The T18 needs to sit lower. We have an account with King Spings at work so I was heading in that direction, just wondering what the general consensus is on King Springs. Quote
jason12 Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 Theres better options out there but i wouldnt say theyre a bad spring Quote

greenmac80 Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 lovells, pedders etc. almost anything is better than kings. king springs tend to sag a heck of a lot quicker than most other brands. also the spring rates are only marginally stiffer than stock. pedders are good quality and are quite a bit stiffer. mate used lovells and reckons they are very good. parrot Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 They are fine. Have had them in an AE86. The off the shelf springs keep you at a legal height. The ones I had are variable rate. If you are planning some club sprints etc, probably a bit soft. For daily driver duties they are perfectly fine, and what they are designed for. Most people go way to hard and way to low. Plus ideally you want to match your spring rates to your dampers. Quote
beerhead Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 A parts interpreter I know told me once that king springs ended up with a bad reputation due to there own stupidity when they were bought out about a decade ago. The new owner decided that all springs with the same physical dimension would become the same part, without care for the spring rates or the weight of the car they're intended for. I've personally had no trouble with kings, but I bet that opinion changes depending which model the parts are intended for. If your planning on hitting the track, I'd think about getting something a little heavier, but if its just a street car I'm sure they'll be fine. Quote
19914afc Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 when I rang up repco they said king springs don't make a low spring and would have to be made for $200 (just for fronts at cost price) Also when I replaced my cut springs in my old st141 corona the cut springs where stiffer. Quote
Gspec Posted July 11, 2010 Author Report Posted July 11, 2010 Cheers for the advice guys. The car is going to be a daily driver so the springs don;t have to be super sporty, but I would likea bit of stifness and improved handling. when I rang up repco they said king springs don't make a low spring King Spring catalogue states they do make low springs to suit T18's. Part numbers: KTFL-16 for the fronts and KTRL-17 for the rears. Quote
19914afc Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 Maybe they meant they didn't have any in stock. But if I was going to get some again now id get pedders, cause they last longer without sagging. Quote
Des Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 Had kings in the ronadore and my t18, Didnt have any issues. Will be going kings again in my ae71. Quote

Trev Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 Pedders... Ask 4ages what he thinks of them, he wanted to throw them back into the window of the shop. Got king SL's in one of the secas and no other suspension mods and it handled pretty good, tyres were a let down as it would start to initiate a 4 wheel slide going too fast around round abouts. SLO-030 Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 (edited) Industrial springs in Adelaide will do almost any spring for almost any car on the road. Certainly something that will meet what you want on the T-18. They make em to any spring rate you could want too! www.industrialsprings.com.au Edited July 11, 2010 by SLO-030 Quote

But if I was going to get some again now id get pedders, cause they last longer without sagging. i too would like to know what this is based on... also i assume when you say "king springs" it is refereing to the "lows" "superlows" that are available. king spring actually have a motorsport range of springs, i bought my coilover springs from them (6kg, 200mm, 55?ID) and have had no problems. you can specify what spring rate you want, length and ID and you can pretty much choose whatever spring you want.... Last time I rang repco, all I could hear was some heavy breathing and what I suspect was somebody drooling into the phone. I'm pretty interested in a scientific explanation of this sagging issue from someone with a conclusive answer. Also, I've heard as many bad reviews on Pedders springs as I have Kings.... Quote
