Evan G Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 ok ive run in my cam. oil pressure when hot and at 2500rpm 41psi idle hot 20psi? oil is 20-40 running in oil this is with 3mm spacers in the oil pump :) i put grease in the oil pump. ive got the aftermarket sender on a T piece . straight on the other end of the adapter is the stock pressure switch and a/m sender is the on the hole on the side. little low isnt it? looks like 20w50 is going in soon Quote

Evan G Posted July 3, 2010 Author Report Posted July 3, 2010 Sounds fine to me thanks cheif! gonna bed in my rings in confiedence :) Quote
altezzaclub Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 That's even high at idle from what I'd expect. I'd expect a range of 60psi cold and driving down to 10psi at hot idle. Running hot at 40psi is fine. Quote
Evan G Posted July 3, 2010 Author Report Posted July 3, 2010 ok i get 6psi at idle and 10psi at 1500rpm. seams verrryyyyyy low to me mr altezza - i checked the valve clearance after i ran in the cam. 17 thou when under nice. i set them at 16 thou cold Quote
altezzaclub Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 Have you got an oil light as well? Does it come on at idle? I think the oil light switch works at about 6psi, but you might be looking at slight differences between guages for that. Are the tappets noisy Evan? I took mine back to 14thou and they are quieter, but it depends how you set them... cheers Keith Quote

camerondownunder88 Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 Your oil pressure is 100% OK :hmm: Leave the oil pump. The shims affect the by-pass pressure so max pressure of the pump will not affect/increase idle pressure. Idle in my 5K is 18PSI with 2.5mm shim in my pump I get 70PSI and the pump bypasses and wont go higher. Cheers Cameron Quote
Evan G Posted July 3, 2010 Author Report Posted July 3, 2010 so 6psi sounds pefectly normal? ill drop the oil today and see if it rises abitt Quote
SLO-030 Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 Yea, the viscosity of the running in oil may have something to do with the low pressure. Quote
marksKE25 Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 I run about the same oil pressure but when I am under heavy breaking or cornering I get very low oil pressure and the warning light, has any one else had this issue and what was done to resolve? Quote

Quote
philbey Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 (edited) I've noticed the pressure drop when cornering hard but only when I was running low on oil. Yeh baffling the sump would be a good start. Incidentally I had a crack at baffling mine when I built the motor but the lack of welder hindered me somewhat. I've got a spare and I'll probably fiddle around with baffles sometime soon. Just check your oil level. Sounds low. 6psi sounds a bit low to me to be honest E. I haven't touched my oil pump. I'll get 70psi running cold and the idle psi won't drop any lower than 20psi when hot. Quote
