the_van_can Posted June 30, 2010 Report Posted June 30, 2010 hay mate, what's your fuel setup, mine still shits me off. I didn't plan it out well enough and its noisy as, I have the surge tank and the lift pump in the car so I get noise from the lift pump and fuel smell when I get in my car after its been sitting. had planned to mount the pump and tank underneath but couldn't find anywhere, I think I'm gonna try harder to at lease mount the lift pump under with the main pump. e70van Posted June 30, 2010 Author Report Posted June 30, 2010 i can speak greek but can't read it LOL? shes looking good mate so far. I cheated abit..actually alot. i used a translator to write that. :) I can't really speak it yet. still learning. only know basic greetings and thanks etc. THE VAN CAN: My fuel system works ok and isnt too loud. only problem with how i did it (and its a pretty big problem lol) is if i run below half a tank and try and take corners hard i get bad fuel surge. I haven't got any good pics of it yet, but basically it consists of: 1x plastic inline fuel filter coming straight from tank (in driver side wheel arch area) straight to a bosch VL commodore external pump mounted with Narva "P clips" and wrapped in rubber. its mounted under the back wheel arch outside the car. sort of infront of the tail light. in this pic below you can see how its mounted from inside the boot. (black rubber bit with two gold coloured M6 x 70mm bolts) VL pump then connects straight to factory steel hard lines under the car (using brass barb fittings to change fuel line size from 1/2" to 1/4") and to a 6mm (1/4") Nissan exa efi fuel filter mounted in the engine bay. So No surgetank. (i wanna fit one). When i had this sort of setup running I'm my sedan a couple years ago the fuel surge issue was no where near as bad.. it must be the shape of the wagon/van fuel tanks that make it worse. Also note: i have a fitted boot cover over my floor area in the back, and when i take it out the pump is noticeably louder. so maybe add a floor covering if you don't already have one. :) Quote
the_van_can Posted July 1, 2010 Report Posted July 1, 2010 thanks for the info guys, ya wasn't meaning to say I wasn't greatfull for the help luke just should of sat and thought about a bit more. would the best option be just to pull the tank out and modify it with some sort of intank lift pump (Maybe even baffle the tank if I feel like getting someone too pull it apart) and then run it into a surge tank in a side panel in the back panels in the cabin, and then back down to the main pump under the car. It would mean the fuels still going through the cabin but at least its a little neater and less noisy. or I could go with the idea of perspex, which I don't really know much about. It's so funny because I was actually doing my system exactly the same as you e70van I just had a external vl pump and I was driving round with fuel as low as possible because the car would start easier (i don't know why, don't even ask, its fixed now) so I was getting epic surge driving for like two weeks, my engine must of loved it.
