Skitzo Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 hey peeps as the title states i own a Ae82 Corollla i have spent about 3.5k on it Lowered Sports Suspension (Super low's in the front) but my guards scrape should i pay $550+ to get the guards rolld Full Sports Exaust (Twin Tip) or should i go a Cannon Complete 4.1 Stereo system (6.9" x 4" sub and amp) Full Sports Service (plat plugs + Leads) but i am curious on what i am able to do to my Engine without replacing it.... it is a 1.6 Carbi, and i want more power. what should i do? ill put pictures on my profile after this post Quote
Twinky Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 Hi, as a fellow AE82 owner I could help you out  Firstly, for more power you would want to jack up the car, take the wheels off and put another car on those wheels...... Come on dude you have already spent 3.5k on the car get a 4AGE for it. If you don't want to swap the motor you might as well do the above. You could give the 4ac a bit of poke with a more aggressive camshaft and a webber carby but for the price of it all you could stick a 4age in for the same price. For your suspension what are your current spring rates??? They may be too soft for the height. $550 for guard rolling?????? Dude that is a rip off. You should only be paying a max of $200. For more info specifically for the AE82 go to www.ae82.net Welcome to the club! Quote
ae824ate Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 My advice will be dependant on how much more power you are chasing. Ok. My user name ae824ate...... Its cos i had a dirty little 4ac in my AE82, then i got an injection setup from a N13 pulsar, custom made an intake plenum with injector seats, turbo manifold etc, added i think 5psi, and the injection setup.....4ate.... It was one of the biggest wastes of money i think ive spent. It went pretty well for a 4a-c, but even then a stock bigport 4age pulls harder, and would cost about half of what i put into that setup. You will always be wanting more and more power, well i do anyway  Get yourself a 4age setup mate, itll put a smile on your face. Quote
LowVp Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 i can be one to testify to start on a solid base, turboing my v6 dunnydore ute for example it is a weapon but the hp bug bites and it bites hard and i'm at the point of selling my whole v6 drive train to put a LS1 in it to chase more power which means the 5-7k i have sunk into it already is going to be wasted. now with my ae82 i want more power with it but having a bit more fore sight i am going to wait and convert it to a 4age and just leave the 4AC as it is apart from making it run on song because any parts or money spent on getting hp is going to be pretty well fruitless Quote
Skitzo Posted June 16, 2010 Author Report Posted June 16, 2010 and how much will one of these 4age's cost? i love my corolla to bits so i kinda new to the corolla wording lyrics lol so I'm assuming a 4age is a type of motor thats in a Ae92? and a response to my suspension idk what rate it is lol and how would lifting my car make me gain anything? as i thought lowering it to the ground will giv it more aerodynamics so quicker... perhaps I'm wrong? and alot of people hav told me if i want any corolla it should be a K90? or something Quote

It's obviously a lot more than just that but basically that's what it is. Inherently it doesn't have that much more horsepower but it has a lot more potential as an engine. It is pretty much bolt in, you'd just need to do a few things as the 4AGE is fuel injected, and you're currently running carby. They don't cost too much but in general you'd be looking around a grand for one. They came in lots of models, including as you say the AE92. So you could keep your eye out for a damaged/written off/defected car that has one in it as factory and pluck it out of there as well. Quote
LowVp Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 i'm kinda new but off the top of my head the 4AGE started in the AE82 Twin Cam (twinky) and run threw to early 2000 with different variatons in induction either via 16 valve or 20 and big and small port heads along with supercharging Quote
xmoht Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 http://www.club4ag.com/faq_and_tech_pages/...mily%20Tree.htm Many many websites detail the history as it's one of the most popular engines in recent history. Quote
ae824ate Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Oh dear, where do we start?? Not sure about tassie, but up here you can buy a decent 4age engine, gbox, loom, computer combo for about $1000ish, depending where you buy it, and people you know. Ive never heard of a K90???? And i think TWINKY added a little sarcasm with his post about lifting the body, read it again you might get it. There are 2 main reasons for lowereing a car, looks, and handling. Another thing about doing a 4age swap, it will slide right in, but you will have to do a bit of messing around with wiring. And an electric fuel pump setup. After spending 3.5 grand on it, you would have been better off buying a twinky. Quote
Twinky Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 lol he did't get the part where I told him to get a new car  What I meant with the suspention is you need fairly stiff springs to accommodate the low stance of the car. If you have springs that are too soft you will scrape on turns and bumps because the car itself is bouncing up and down too far. Guard rolling will not solely fix that problem. The lower the car goes the less suspension travel you have to play with. Do you understand what I'm getting at? The spring does not even fully compress before your body slams onto your tyres. Don't worry about having a lack of a knowledge base on engines, suspension we all started off in the darkness. I have only recently been able to squint and see a light off in the distance. I've been at it for well over a year now. Quote
Skitzo Posted June 16, 2010 Author Report Posted June 16, 2010 ill ask the dude who set it up for me... i'd have to ask wreckers for a 4age engine bay? basically? and yea i understand what ya mean... just alot of people hav said doesnt matter what i do to my corolla it wont be worth it.. so for me to do what i want to do is kinda hard as far as verble goes.. so all in a nut shell i need to spend another 3.5k on it? for engine, gearbox, and..... Quote
ae824ate Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 KE70 makes a bit more sense, and they were rear wheelers  No, you wont need to put another 3.5k into it. I doubt you will find any rolla's with 4age's in them in tassie. Keep an eye on ebay, and on here, also ae82.net forums. You will have to be pretty commited to a swap like that before you start it. Apart from that, just keep an eye out for any twin cam AE82's for sale. Every now and then you can score a bargain. And yeah, there prolly isnt much point in rolling your guards (apart from the lip of them) which you can do with a shifter and a rubber mallet yourself. Any questions, just ask. Ive built up (and down) many AE82 rollas. Good luck. Quote
Skitzo Posted June 16, 2010 Author Report Posted June 16, 2010 atm i've used a 3.5" pipe and pushed the car forwards and backwards lol.. wasnt the hatch the only Twincam that came our in the early corolla's? coz i'd rather the sedans and ill have to make up a Ebay/paypal account then... and ty for all the help appreciated  Quote
ae824ate Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 They came out with the hatch and the seca twin cams. Also the FX16 2 door AE82's, but they are as rare as rocking horse shit. Quote
