brandon Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 hey guys i just purchased a 2001 sportivo levin turbo and cannot find anywhere else online the best oil to run. was just wondering if anyone knows the best oil weight and brand. thanks Quote
GJM85 Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 (edited) did you buy it off carsales.com for just under 10k? If you did... YOU BASTARD!!! and congradulations. edit to add i think many people run a 10w40. And the brand is always determined by how deep your pocket is.... Edited June 15, 2010 by mirage1172 Quote

GJM85 Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 yeah man just picked it up last night, thanks for that. what car you got? i've got a ae92 seca. was browsing those sportivo levins the other day and there was 3 of them. saw the 9k one and said, "Yes. that's mine!". But now its yours... there's one in noosa. the guy want's 20k for it! what a wacka! Quote
rob83ke70 Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 full synthetic 5w40 or 0w40 - castrol edge sport or shell helix ultra are a few brand names. don't have to run synthetic, but if it was mine I would be. Robert. Quote
RedKE30 Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 How many K's has the car done? I don't think I'd be running a 0W in a 2001 Corolla. Quote
rob83ke70 Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 the second number is the more important one. As it is turbocharged and your pride and joy (or it should be!!!) I'd run a quality FULL synthetic engine oil - they'll just put up with so much more than a regular oil. I'd also run genuine Toyota filters too. I deal with castrol at work - its easiest to get (retail) in 10w60 or 0w40 in edge sport full synthetic. I'd be happy with either of those oils. Robert. Quote
rob83ke70 Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 look up an oil manufacturer's lube guide online - or ring their technical department. They normally reccommend something common and cheap where possible, maybe asking the tech department "can I use <insert oil name here> in my car?" might be the go? Quote
brandon Posted June 15, 2010 Author Report Posted June 15, 2010 hey guys thanks for all the replies i just got motul 10w-40 turbolight fully synthetic costs alot but is worth it, oh and got an oil filter from toyota, just one more question what would be the best spark plugs to run as toyota have mentioned that they put in "cooler" spark plugs. thanks in advance Quote

rob83ke70 Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 I think toyota plug are ngk plugs in a toyota box - although not 100% sure on this I don't work on heaps of toyota's these days.... bkr6eya11 maybe? check it with toyota or an ngk book. 6's are pretty cool as far as heat range of plugs go. Robert. Quote
RedKE30 Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 Yeh Toyota uses NGK'S in a Toyota box for most vehicles. Ask Toyota for the part number then buy them from an auto parts store for cheaper probably. Quote
Karllos Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 Good choice on the Oil dude, personally recommend it!!! As for spark plugs, atm I've got just copper items, work well and don't cost anywhere near as much as Iridiums of platinums, and honestly they're not worth the hype... Also what have or you planning to do to the car... I'm intrigued  Karl. Quote
brandon Posted June 16, 2010 Author Report Posted June 16, 2010 The car is stock atm except for a turbosmart bov. I don't plan on doing too much to the car as they are rare and would just ruin a limited edition. i will be dropping it a bit on coilovers and thinking about te37's maybe 16's 215 cause it struggles so much for traction. other than that and a boost gauge(which is a maybe, what do you reckon?) i think i'll leave it close to stock. what mod's are usually done to ae112r's?
