RainWarriorDregs Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 i'm not too clued in on 4ages, but you say that it gets filled up before you go places? is this needed? maybe your problem stems from here? where is the coolant going? Quote
altezzaclub Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 Yep- find out if it leaks and what causes that- I'd say head gasket if you haven't seen a puddle of water under it in the morning. When the rad is filled in the morning, leave the cap off and start it up. Leave it idling while you watch for bubbles coming up out of the rad top until the thermostat opens and the water suddenly gets hot. If there are no bubbles then there's a chance the head gasket is fine and the water goes somewhere else, but if you can't see a leak then the compression leaking under the gasket into the water jackets is blowing the top few inches of water out until the thermostat opens. You only get water emulsion in the oil if the leak is water jacket to oil return. Quote

I'm hoping its not the head gasket though as I'm to lazy to fix it cos i know she wont haha. i havent seen any water on the ground under it but ill double check. hmm cheers guys ill check it out in the morning an post back here. Johno Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 Has the engine been idle hunting? Mine started idle hunting then later it overheated all the time and then found out later my head gasket was gone. Quote
Evan G Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 mite sound abit strange but did you fit the thermo's yourself? are they pulling air the right way? not pushing air on radiator blocking on coming air? Quote
Josh_04 Posted June 15, 2010 Author Report Posted June 15, 2010 (edited) ok so i went out this morning, had a check for water on the ground..none at all.. did the radiator bubbling thing, didnt bubble, left it going a few minutes, raised up a bit but didnt bubble. has been idle hunting but a mate told me its just the tps sensor as when he had one it did the same thing. i read your thread about the idle hunting before i posted this...as it got me a bit worried lol. na i didnt fit the thermo myself, was already like it, occasionally i pull out the plug for the thermo on the motor for it to stay on permanately an it seems to make it better. but sometimes the thermo just makes it worse. weird. Drift_Marti Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 It will be the thermo stat being stuck closed or there is air in the system Quote
Josh_04 Posted June 21, 2010 Author Report Posted June 21, 2010 not driving it atm, sister has it back, but next time I'm there or driving it ill check out the thermostat etc. also figured out it doesnt really idle hunt when its got more petrol in it? was a bit under qtr of a tank an i put some more in an was fine, premium unleaded as well. cheers Quote
altezzaclub Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 Check the fans... you never know.. Boss found an oven that had three fans in, all working nicely at low speed, but when you went to high speed two sped up and one ran backwards.... Straight from the factory, warranty job. Wiring was reversed in two wires to the 3rd fan. So- radiator blocked/no fins new thermostat is a dud water pump not pumping enough fans run backwards timing too retarded (don't forget that one) running too lean (had the exhaust manifold glowing redhot last week from that!)
