Hi all,

Have just found a nice MS55D that is going to be restored. It currently has a holden straight six HP block in it but the old owner still wants that.

Am tossing up between a supercharged straight six or a V8 and supercharge it at a later date. Can anyone give me some choices of engine that are going to slot straight in.

It still has all original driveline etc.

I think there are a few MS5* Crowns getting around with 7M-GE and 7M-GTE. There's a few crown-ers on here.

Have a look at Toymods There are a few real nice crowns on there.

1UZFE will not fit in the bay, the exhaust studs sit on the control arms.

7MGE or GTE is the easiest engine with decent power to fit.

An old 4V V8 would probably fit. It'd sound great and look the part but not have any power to speak of.

Pics?

Hi,

Is the current owner keeping the trans as well as the engine? Or just the engine? Auto or manual?

As it's currently running a Holden 6 you could just bolt another one back in, I usedto run hot na and turboed Holden six's, cheap and easy to build with very little to go wrong, would have one over an m series Toyota 6 anyday

Or a Holden v8 will bolt straight in in place of the 6 provided it clears everything, as with the Holden 6 these were a very common swap to crowns, a friend of mine has a 55 ute with a 253 in it. These are also cheap, make enough grunt for a crown and there is plenty of aftermarket support for them, and they love turbos.

That said, if your keen on spending cash and can fab up mounts etc a 1 or 2jz six would be great, as would a 1uz v8.

Cheers, jarrad.

My dad had one of these things with a 307 Chev + Powerglide. He said to me that it ran like "S**t out of Shanghai". :)

He told me that it used to "Get up and Boogie" and lined up all those Peanuts in V8 Commodores.

It was an absolute sleeper, and people didn't suspect that it had a rumpin' V8 under the bonnet. It was Registered as well.

Hope this helps with ideas...

Josh :S
