It does just, runs rough like it's dropped a cylinder, fair amount of blue-ish smoke on start up. it will not idle and revs are not consistent.

I'll will clean it up and give it a go finding the leaks after i chill out :bash:

Sounds like my car at the moment :( (minus the smoke)

Turns out the 4th cylinder was rooted, either piston or ring. it had no compression and misfired, filled with fuel and oil then shot up through the rocket cover breather on to the bonnet spraying into the fan then everywhere.

Going to my local wreckers tomorrow to source a 5k or 7k, depending on price. Hopefully have one in by Wednesday

This arvo's work consisted of disconnecting the engine, ready to be lifted out tomorrow.

MFW! the rolla is back.

after many problems i have a 4k in and running.

The reason why the 5k blew up was because the fuel pump. The rear seal had gone and it was not pumping fuel through to the carby, instead it was pumped straight into the block from the rear of the pump. causing the engine to fill with fuel and end up exploding oil all through the bay. :bash:

waittt a min. wouldnt you have felt it stall or miss fire if it was suppling enough fuel to the carby?

It did splutter and stall many times. my theory (5k) is that the rings in cylinder 4 were shot, the fuel pump was buggerd but still managed to get small amounts of fuel to the carby. because of the engine running lean the car felt as if it was dropping the 4th cylinder because compression was not up. the fuel presure was not high so the throtle could only be used lightly before the car would lean out and stall.

We put the 4k in and the same thing happened but the engine was not missing, the only parts i used off the 5k were the dizzy and the fuel pump, so i knew it had to be one of those issues. after smelling the oil i then found the problem with the fuel system leaking into the block.

Fixed all the parts (fuel pump, lines, filter, points, leads, serviced her and away she went.

after all that stress and inconvenience I'm just glad to be on the road again

thank god shes not getting stripped!.

pull the head off the 5k and check the bores. if the bores are ok you might get away with another piston/rings and a hone

its dodgy but might work

or send it to me and ill rebuild it for yah for less than $1000 :rolls:

But I'm glad i got it running again, driving my golf was sending me nuts!
