altezzaclub Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 Have you touched the ignition system recently? Timing will make it pre-ignite when you turn it off, the motor tries to run backwards. Carb can do the same, check for an electrical fuel shutoff valve working. I don't expect them to go as far back as the 10 but someone may have fitted a later carb. Quote

By ignition system you mean distributor and points right? Thing is i get it tuned (timing) all smooth and everthing then about a month later.. it's out of wack again.. still good but not a smooth idle like first tuned. why..... just old cars i spose? My carb needs a reco soon though i think. but yeah thanks for the insight matey! Quote
philbey Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 Hmm could be points related if it runs nice then dies after a month or so. Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 Using an old nipendenso or Bosch dizzy? The old nippondenso dizzys can flog out easy. If it is the original one after being tuned (ie new points gap set etc) after a bit of wear and the play in the dizzy it causes it to diesel. Also original carby or later KE carby? Early ones had no fuel cut off valve later ones did. So if you have original KE1X carby useless looking to the valve as the issue. Carby kits are $50 at a place near me worth every cent. rian Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 If it isn't one of the above issues it may be carbon build up on your pistons, which can cause your engine to run on after you turn it off because there is the tiniest amount of petrol left soaked into the carbon, doubt it would make it "shudder" much though. If you think this is the case you can get an additive for the petrol which will clean off the carbon. Quote
