boxolla Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 hey all. ok i must admit I'm not sure what I'm in for here. I'm new to the site and I'm new to corollas and new to hatchbacks and FWD's. so if there was ever such thing as a true newbie. my pic is next to the word in the dictionary. I'm just about to get a '91 hatch, i know this will make things a bit tricky but i have no idea of engine model or anything serious about the car. i want to know if u can tell me if they are ok cars and what sort of limits the thing will be capable of with mods. i don't really want to do an engine swap. if that is the only real way to get better performance and handling then i just as well wait and get another car. I'm more looking along the way of a good little track car. I'm not trying to take on the V8's. just have some fun :rolls: lol ya'll know what i mean!? so can you point me in the right directoin to get this thing moving??? Quote
ke70dave Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 one thread at a time hey mate:P nothing wrong with the 91 hatches, ae92 i assume? hatches look much cooler than the seca's so your one up there! so you don't want to do an engine swap, yet in the other thread your considering an AWD transplant? I'm confused.... get a 20V halfcut and bolt it all in, thats how you will get it moving;) maybe wait till you get the car, to find out what needs doing first. if it is the injected version then it will have a bit of poke (4afe) if its the 4afc it may be a tad slow...but they are still twincam so it wont be that slow. and if its the SX youll have the oh so loved 16V 4age smallport. which should go pretty quick already. twincam.info (i think the forum is called, or maybe twincam.org) is all about these cars (FWD corollas), so have a look over there too. Sam_Q Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 yes an engine swap is the only real way to get going to a reasonable pace, unless you make up a bolt on turbo kit.. Quote
boxolla Posted May 19, 2010 Author Report Posted May 19, 2010 the AWD conversion is a diferent thing man :rolls: doing a conversion just for power is another thing. I'm just trying to get my mind rollin on what is possible Quote
Sam_Q Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 well if you follow ke70daves guidelines you can take on V8s, well 5L ones anyway. Quote
boxolla Posted May 19, 2010 Author Report Posted May 19, 2010 like i said totally new to this car :$ so wats the 20V?? what would i find it in??? Quote
ke70dave Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 like i said totally new to this car :$ so wats the 20V?? what would i find it in??? read through the wikipedia article on Corolla. noting the names of the engines used in the models. any engine with an A in it will bolt into your car (the engine block that is, dunno about gearboxes, I'm into RWD cars) 4ac, 4age, 4afe, 7afe,7afc. (unsure if 7afc exists, maybe somewhere...) 20V is the late model 4age engine (read the wiki for 4age as well). only comes in import corollas, which is why you buy a halfcut from an engine importer. i think you had better spend the rest of the day reading the internet, plenty of info around, especailly in members rides threads. see what others have done etc. Quote
boxolla Posted May 19, 2010 Author Report Posted May 19, 2010 yea cheer man just wanted to be pointed in he right direction. Quote
