I've got a 5K engine, but I'm buying an EFI manifold for it,

i don't need to change to solid lifters for this do i? I'm assume not since I'm keeping the 5K head.

Do i need an Electronic Dizzy? or will the stock 5K work?

Electronic dizzy will definitely be needed. What you need is dependent on what ecu you want a run.

Most 5K's run electric already, have a look under the cap to see if there's points in there, the old bosch jetronic system runs off a simple 4 point trigger the same as the 4KE, but most have an internal igniter module, so you'll have to do some stuffing around to get the signal to a stock 4KE ecu to make it run.

If its aftermarket, get a 7KE dizzy as that gives the signals that'll let you run full sequential injection. Many also go to crank mounted hall effect pickups for aftermarket installs. Maybe a full set of stock 7KE electrics could be used to run it, but I haven't done it so that's up to you to try.

You looking for power or economy?

If you want power get a regrind cam, extractors, 2" system and shim up the valve springs to get better revs. Induction wise run a re-jetted gemini nikki carb or 32/36 webber. Even the standard carby runs quite well with a mild cam. EFI only gives you efficiency, unless it's fully programmable and you have engine mods like listed above you won't end up with any extra power. It'll cost $1000 minimum to go fully programmable efi, that's if you can do everything yourself, another $300 to get it tuned properly. I think an aftermarket ecu is an investment, it can be used on any motor you choose to run in the future. Not trying to stop ol mate selling his EFI gear, but it's only part of the equation.

I'm fully aware EFI doesnt increase power, it is mearly a building block for a turbo set up that isnt blow or suck through.

I plan on investing on a decent ECU etc, and i know it isnt cheap but my car is all i spend my pay on since i live with my parents, so I'm sweet.

heres a short list of plans.

front mount oil cooler, without relocation kit just a sandwich plate.

turbo, not sure what, maybe T28 because of abundance.

front mount intercooler, wastegate BOV etc

i already have extractors, 2 inch system, coilovers, deep dish enkei's and more that i can't recall. oh and fender mirrors in the post from japan.

so once this above have been acheived i should be sweet to start on the interior which is overrated cloth but i want leather. so i might sell the current seats, buy ripped ones and reupholster.

Sweet as, was just making sure you've thought it all through, you definitely need a 7KE dizzy then, I'd got a 7KE intake too, bigger ports and better design.

well I'm buying that 4KE intake on thursday unless a 7KE magically appears for sale and is as good price as $120

plus this 4KE intake has chrome piping.

Nope.

An external ignitor elec dizzy will do the job just fine. I don't think he really needs to run sequential injection and quad coils, I'm tossing up weather its worth it myself. Think just keep the one coil and run an MSD unit. Just running "single pulse" triggering still enables you to run ECU controlled ignition provided the ECU can do it. Thats all you really need.

Not going to argue the 7ke intake manifold is better. 4ke are sooooo overrated and over priced.... well this one isn't overpriced anyway.
