abbott Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 ok guys i have read through a lot of threads on engine conversions and all that stuff. i know that you all hate people asking questions like this because its so general and stupid but I'm just interested to see peoples opinions on what you think i should do. well basically I'm an apprentice diesel mechanic and have time to work on my own car at trade school so I'm going to try and get more power into my ke20. I'm currently running a 5k with a weber and extractors making a grand total of 40.5kw :bash: and I'm stuck in the pickle of a situation where i don't know whether to do a full engine conversion myself or whether to try and work the 5k engine to make good power. cause I'm thinking i could do cam change, bore it out and that. but i have been thinking of possible doing either a 4age, 2t or 3t conversion because being toyota and lots of parts being around if I'm patient! ive also thought about a rotary but i realise thats a big job so probably isnt anywhere near my price range. ive got around 2-3k!.. from here feel free to abuse me if thats what makes you feel better :bash: or if you wanna help me cause i want to learn would be great :bash: thanks tom. My opinion would be to do the 5k of its tits, even though with a conversion you will get more standalone power. The only issue I have with a transplant is the fact that most other parts will and may need to be changed as well.Such parts like custom diff, brakes, mounts etc.If you are able to produce such components yourself than the transplant would be worth it. abbott Posted May 4, 2010 Author Report Posted May 4, 2010 yeah cheers for the opinion mate! i would really love a turbo or supercharger on the 5k but honestly I'm not sure where to start so any heads up on whats involved to do that from anyone would be great also :bash: Quote

I would look at the 3t. If you were going to go much more than a stock 5k you would end up replacing the diff anyway, and I would upgrade brakes as a matter of course anyway. Then you have the option of playing with the 3t to get more later. Cheers, Ian Quote
13BT_KE20 Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 (edited) with your budget i would upgrade the shocks/springs all round. Upgrade to KE70 brakes (not hard or expensive) with new pads/lines. Total about $1000 the rest of would spend on keeping the K series motor and possibly turbocharging it. As long as you don't go too wide with your rear tyres your diff/gbox will hold up fine. The stock diff (locked) in my car lasted fine with 155rwkw provided i kept the stock rear wheels/tyres. A few people on here have had good results from turbo K motors, if done right theres no reason you can't double that power figure can't really help with the motor upgrades (don't play with pistons lol) but if you want more info about suspension/brakes PM me Cheers ****EDIT**** wealth of info here http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?s...0940&st=690 about turbo K motor Edited May 5, 2010 by 13BT_KE20 Quote
