RainWarriorDregs Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Hey guys, Alec here, just started to strip my 4k due to it being rebuilt (expect a build thread!!!) now i just pulled the sump off, and i looked at the timing chain and it seems to have a twin row timing chain (i think). From what i've read on the FAQ and knowledge base (How To Build A Tough 4k) the 3ks had twin row but the 4ks have single and swapping to the twin is a good maintenance mod. Now, does this mean that this has twin row? or am i missing something here, sorry for the dumb question, was just unsure. heres a pic! cheers! Quote
Evan G Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 yea you got a double row timing chain, if the chain was noisy before hand find a timing chain kit for it and replace it Quote
GJM85 Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 My second car was a ke70 4k 4speed. It also had a 2 row timing chain. I miss it so. Solid motor, held powerslides longtime , like i love you. :P Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted May 1, 2010 Author Report Posted May 1, 2010 alright heres another one then, how do i get my oil pump out, i thought i'd just undo that nut then it'd slide out. doesn't wanna seem to budge. did i miss something or is there something holding her in? Quote
philbey Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Oil pump should just slide out once you've got the bolt (it's just one isn't it I can't remember) off. Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted May 2, 2010 Author Report Posted May 2, 2010 yeah thats what i thought philbey and yeah it is only one nut. um, maybe i'll put a cloth and a screwdriver down the dizzy hole nd try to tap it out with the ledge. if that made sense. Quote
Evan G Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 yeah thats what i thought philbey and yeah it is only one nut. um, maybe i'll put a cloth and a screwdriver down the dizzy hole nd try to tap it out with the ledge. if that made sense. no don't do that! tap the oil pickup with your hand then tap it upwards = out Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted May 2, 2010 Author Report Posted May 2, 2010 yeah i tried that and its not going anywhere. at all. Quote
Evan G Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 yeah i tried that and its not going anywhere. at all. wait do you have the cam out? the oil pump is driven by the cam! so you gotta take the cam out before the oil pump!! Quote
philbey Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 nope it's driven off the distributor so you don't need it out. Quote
SLO-030 Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Cam Drives the Distributor shaft. Distributor shaft drops down into the oil pump and drives the pump. Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted May 2, 2010 Author Report Posted May 2, 2010 yeah i just wasn't pulling hard enough. Quote
