the_van_can Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Hi everyone, This is my KE70 Panel Van. I bought it two years ago knowing a little about cars, I saw a picture of it and it was exactly what my dad used to drive for many years, actually his was an AE71 pano but same same. Me and my mates used to meet up during the week and just stuff around with our cars because we had too much time on our hands. They convinced me to do the engine conversion. $600 for the Panno. The tailgate was completely full of rust, me and my mate ABSOLUTELY WINGED fixing the rust and it looks amazing, I wish I had a before and after, I still don't have an after because I always forget to take a picture of the tailgate. The passenger door handle was stuffed, the drivers side window wouldn't go up and many other surprises. The biggest surprise was that I found out only a few weeks ago by the guy doing the bodywork on the car that the car had had professional rust repairs around the back windows at some stage, never would of known. Front chrome bar full of rust and still is. Ugly roof racks and Ugly spotties. This is how it started: Close call in a storm 2 words - THE BEAST Its funny how the camera actually makes the paint job on the car look alright, the original baked enamel job was absolute shit when I got it. Then came along the smallport 4age from the wreckers, along with every single other conversion part from the same wreckers, was a goldmine I've been back there since and its a ghost town for parts. Pedal box wasnt fun my mate peter in the background, he did shitloads of work on the car, if not most of it cut n shut inlet fits nice ill post the rest soon. Quote

Thanks mate, heres some more, So engine was in and I got someone else to hook up an ems ecu for me. The fuel system at that stage consisted of 1 external fuel pump bosche 040. Pretty crap I know, was pretty happy with the dyno figure, stock smallport 16valve. still more pictures to come, as you can see by my signature the car has new paint now, just collecting all the pics from last couple of years. Hey, is motor in now? And does that mean that the power figure shown is at the wheels. If that is at the wheels that's awesome. I am just curious to see what the smallports can produce with little mods. The build looks awesome and it will be a fun car to drive to I bet. Quote
mungi mods Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 small ports will produce good hp with headwork and cams ( good breathing ) my old one on carbs made 127hp atw with headwork only and 40mm dellorto's (34mm chokes) aftermarket electronic dizzy and extrators and exhaust Quote

Only other things to note was f***ing expensive spark plugs because its all super cheap had, apparently they are meant to last 5 years their are some good bosche ones.' oh and 1 external vl pump at the time, ill post the new system redae71 helped me out with Edited April 29, 2010 by the_van_can Quote
the_van_can Posted April 30, 2010 Author Report Posted April 30, 2010 More pictures of the new paint job the bodywork was opposite of straight, but my camera wasn't working when we did that bodywork unfortunatly so there are only pics of the paint job I choose chrome yellow, for 2 reasons 1. it looks awesome, very very bright 2. I couldn't be bothered pulling the motor back out to do the engine bay and also doing the interior Quote
the_van_can Posted May 4, 2010 Author Report Posted May 4, 2010 So I'll put the pics of my fuel setup, it does the job, it is a little noisy but its not too bad. I should of probably took the tank out and modified it with an intank pump idealy but I wasn't thinking that far ahead I thought what everyone does to the sedans would do the job, and it does. Thanks to redae71 for helping me out, and the others that replied to my thread and offered, some of you were to far away. So I have an oil leak :) Its coming from between the gearbox bellhousing and the motor. First thing that comes to mind - rear main seal. I already replaced it with a brand new one from burson before I put the motor in. I have no idea why I have leaks in that area, originally I thought it was gearbox oil because to say it in the nicest way my gbox is F***ed but it apears to be engine oil. I get oil build up right underneath where I have my hand, i have already wiped it off. I checked my oil the other day just after I had run it and the level was almost on low, I put it straight onto flat ground after that and it was half way, then I get it home in the shed on flat ground and check it the next day and it looks like this - absolutly fine, how I had it filled. ???? I mean I know checking the engine straight after its running is stupid because the oil is still seeping down into the sump again but still I'm a little confused. Quote
SLO-030 Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Looks good mate! I be she hoots with 112+rwhp! Quote

Handiman Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 How did you go getting the box out? Did my ideas help much? Input shaft seal? Quote
the_van_can Posted May 25, 2010 Author Report Posted May 25, 2010 How did you go getting the box out? Did my ideas help much? Input shaft seal? Yah mate, went fairly smoothly. I looked absolutly everywhere and could not track down the leak, rear main was fine absolutly no leaks from input shaft. Must be dripping down from cam covers or sumthing. I also need to change the seals in my dizzy, I got a kit from kbox.ca and now I have to make sure I don't stuff up the timing when I take off the dizzy to change the seal. Oh and might be going supercharged soon haha, am going to use the spare smallport and chuck a supercharger on it with all the brackets and pulleys and intercooler and what not. Quote
the_van_can Posted May 29, 2010 Author Report Posted May 29, 2010 (edited) Update! Since my current smallport is getting a little worn and leaky I have a new side project :blinks: what do u get when you have these: Low k ADM small port 4age from wrecker W55 gearbox - bellhousing adapter to be bought soon. A GZE supercharger and a box full of brackets, crank pulley, alternator and other accessories from a gze which leaves just 4agze forged lower compression pistons and injectors, I shall call it ADM 4agze haha. apparently the crank is the same and I'm hoping the conrods and gudgen pin are the same so all I need is the forged pistons. JJT036 Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 Nice Panelvan mate. I like the 4agze idea. Would make a wicked little Panelvan to drive in. :blinks: Keep us updated. Josh :blinks: Quote
