Hi all,

I have always been a ke70/ae71 fan but at heart I am a real ta22 nut. But i am having a tough choice about what to get. I would go with either of the cars and would not look back. But the issue I have is parts. I would like to get peoples oppinion on whether i should get a ta22 or ke70, based on the access to cheap and regular parts. Which do you think will be the better runner and the better car? It will be a daily and will probs do a few hill climbs and will be powered by a 4age. I would love to hear what you have to say cause it is bugging me. Any advice on making the choice would be much appreciated.

Ta22 all the way.

Ta22 a classic shape, could be mistaken for nothing else of the era. The doors shut solid, the panels are thicker, basically a less cheap car to ride in.

A very sporty seating position and surrounding from factory. Also 2 door, which can be taken both ways.

Ke70, a mid 80s square beast, not really a classic, but a big following due to the sprinters i think.

looks are typical of the era, square, pretty tinny build quality, not a sporty feel from factory but we all know this can be fixed to a degree.

To clarify, i am biased, i don't think you will find a non biased opinion, Cheers~matt

Go with the car you like (ta22)because if you go with some thing thats YOUR second choice you will never be happy with it.

Parts buy a second parter of flea bay.

Better car matter of apinion ,as will depend on how deep your wallet is .

At the end of the day its what you like not any one else .

My rant over .

cheers rob

What would be the cheaper option? I am happy to go either way. It will be my first car also.

I am thinking ke70 cause ta22's are getting pretty hard to find in SA.

i have both, and yeah rolla is more common and sure is easier to get parts for put even i prefer my ta22 thats why I'm rebuilding it ground up

sure parts are a lil harder to come by, but how many ta22s are out there f*!k all, so ya don't need to worry bout copying the bloke down the street with style.

and plus they look frickin tuff no matter what ya do to it.

so my opinion is ta22 need more clean tuff 22s out there!

Un-biased on RC? You'll be lucky.

Oh ye of little faith. Not everyone wants a matt black KE70.

I've owned both so I think I can be unbiased. KE70 is hands down easier to get parts for, just because its newer and sold in considerably higher volumes. The TA22 never really gave me any grief when it came to finding parts though aside from the pesky coupe window rubbers. Reliability for both of them was pretty similar. Ignoring the engines (if you're going to change it anyway) theres not much that goes wrong on either.

The TA22 was better to drive IMO but my KE70 doesn't have lowered springs or uprated swaybars. Like oh what a nissan feeling said the driving position is excellent. Compared to eachother the TA22 definitely has a feeling of racing pedigree where as the KE70 just feels like a shoebox.

....beacause it IS a shoebox haha.

In all seriousness, we're talking about toyota's, not Edsel's. Yeh, it's easier to get KE70 parts, but it's still not really that hard to get TA22 bits and pieces.

hmmmm, well then maybe I should do both, first a ke70 budget build to get me around and have a bit of fun in and then get a ta22 and do it from the ground up..................or I could just get what ever one is up for sale when I go to buy. but overall the cost between doing the same things to both cars would not be to different, right? (conversion, rust etc.)

In my honest opinion i have owned and driven both cars, i have had problem after problem in the ta22 i destroyed 3 engines in it changed a diff did a clutch, on the other side of the coin, i had alot of fun in it it did mad skids and went hard till i broke it, parts were always hard to find and are getting harder to find, mind you if you weren't afraid to throw coin at it by all means get a ta22 if you want every1 to look at it drive by and say oh look at that, on the other hand the ke70 handled just as good as the ta22 with the same suspension mods i had done to the ta22 i must say i love both cars but i hate and despise t series engines, and 3 and 4k engines i had a slanty front ke71 with a 5k and it vastly shit on the 3and 4k motors, i love both and i'd say it all comes down to how much money your willing to throw at a vehicle till your happy with it really, i love both and i'll tell you now you'll be happy with either car you buy. Cheers Justin

MattyZ, if you ever come down Adelaide way let me know, I would love to see the ta22 and have a good look, cause I am trying to find some around me but there seems to be a very slim amount. None actually. Except one when i was like a kid and that disappeared.

All about money!

KE70/AE71 will be much cheaper and easier to get, parts are pretty easy too.

TA22 on the other hand will cost you alot to get a good one (expect minimal 3k for a good one) and parts are a little harder but still pretty easy these days.

If you have the cash TA22 all the way they rock, Ive got an RA23 and there isn't a corolla in the world i would swap it for (but I'm biased towards celicas as they were my first car).
