i think if you bought them off the shelf they would be alot dearer in price, as for the custom ones, i think i just took along an old set for him to copy off....he'd probably only need to know what the car is anyway.

You'll get them cheaper from Qld Ign Leads. If not cheaper, better ones. I wouldn't get leads from anywhere else again. That's how happy I am with mine.

Take your old ones in and nicely ask the man behind the counter to make you some. Think Repco used to have K series leads in stock.

the only thing with off the shelf leads is, they only come in 8mm, which has a smaller core. repco leads are the best ones you can buy off the shelf

 

if simon got a 9mm set made up at QIS for 50 bucks, then i'd say that's ideal ;)

Do you have to get them custom made or can you just buy them straight from the shelf???? If you have to get custom ones, do you need to give them any specific details? ;)

I'm running 9mm leads on my 5k. Off the shelf leads for a Lite-Ace are 9mm. However, the coil lead has to be replaced with a longer item (about 150mm longer).

When ordering your leads, just tell the bloke behind the counter make a special note that you need a longer coil lead. Mine didnt cost me anymore than what they would have normally.

or ideally, relocate your coil so it's closer to the engine. cafee has his mounted on his ke30 firewall, with a curly cable (like a pre-tensioned phone cable or something) to the points. it actually looks really trick ;)

OK, i got all the dizzy info, so what is the best coil to run with all this???

 

Can i just use the standard coil that came with the 4k or should i j\hunt down the 5k coil?????

 

Or can you buy aftermarket items????

i have an echlin gx80 "performance" coil, it's served me well, nice fat blue sparks. stewart runs these with jaycar HEI and pulls about 8 amps thru them, even with that punishment, they usually last a couple of years before they die

 

surprisingly, i found a cheap efiparts.com coil was more powerful than my echlin, and about 10 or 20 dollars cheaper. i was getting all these thru aussie auto stores (there's one of them at the turnoff to shailer park, the hyperdome or whatever it's called)

 

if i was going to upgrade, i'd go to an electronic ignition coil (not a cylinder thing, kindof like a little block), or just bite the bullet and get a full MSD setup

The 9mm 5k lite-ace van leads only set me back $17.00 for the set!

 

I also, got a set of points, a distributor cap, condenser, leads, and a new coil.
