evil rolla Posted April 21, 2010 Author Report Posted April 21, 2010 4 either side. Done them.. There are no actual bolts left to take off except the one that goes to the tail shaft... Hmmm weird. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 Cool, now its just "make shift slide hammer" time. Quote
DoriTime Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 Tried Brake Drum, Tried wheel and a sledge hammer.. Hmmm isn't getting very far, Hopefully Trev will reply soon. Quote
DoriTime Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 And they're out. Finally. Ended up putting the brake drum on backwards (tight) and smashing it with a big sledgehammer :laff:. Done the trick so I'm happy. Thanks for the replies anyways guys and girls if their were any :D. Quote
DoriTime Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 I'm going to revive this thread even though its not that old. Putting the diff Back together. Â Info: When i pulled the diff center out 4 (2 either side) i'm assuming spacers or something fell out. On either side one is thin and one is bigger. Question: Which way do they go.. Thin closest to center or bigger closer to center. and is it same on the other side ie thin closest to center. Â Cheers. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 The rings you speak of are shims to reduce play in the centre, and its pretty important to put them back in where they came from otherwise your diff will be setup incorrectly. If you didn't take notice of which was which I suppose you just going to have to install them each way and see which has less play in the diff. Quote
DoriTime Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 I Figured it out Ended up having to go get new shim's from the wreckers coz i snapped one trying to get the dif back in.. Was weird, The ones i got today were completely different to mine yet same car .. Now i just need to fit to car and add oil etc. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 :) The reason they are different is because over time the diffs have worn differently and been re-shimmed to suit. I don't really think what you have done/are doing is a good idea. I would be tripple checking the diff play befor putting the backing plate back on. If the diff has too much play its just wear itself out completely in under 6 months. Quote
DoriTime Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 Erm there's no real play anywhere that I've noticed. Everything seems to fit nicely. Where will this so called play be if there is any ? Quote
ninja-philbo Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 in and out on the axel dude and it has to have a little or it will tear itself to pieces Quote
DoriTime Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 Well Yeah there seem to be a little movement if you pull and push wheel but nothing bad. Brother was playing with that today Quote
Taz_Rx Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 What, NO you shouldn't have any play in your axles. If you do it means the bearings aren't pressed on as they should be or the retainer bolts are loose. The play I'm talking about is between the crown wheel and pinion, aka diff slop. Quote
Felix Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 What, NO you shouldn't have any play in your axles. If you do it means the bearings aren't pressed on as they should be or the retainer bolts are loose. Â Or the wheel bearings are stuffed. Quote
DoriTime Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 I fixed the push pull.. And the rims are somewhat fk'd.. As for the movement in the pinion etc gears, There isn't any i know of :).. I know nothing about the diff.. It works the wheels turn etc. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Well if you can't feel any play then now you're running the risk of having the diff shimmed up too tight. This is why you need to remember which one came from which side. Stock up on Bananas now!!! :) Quote
