Oops didnt see i haven't added that, I'm in the west suberbs of Adelaide. I'm probably going to spend upto $700 on the paintjob. I don't have a welder as well and I got no idea about what to do with modding the x-member. Is there any performance gain in changing the carby to the 3k?

The old '55 that i once had didn't have as much of the emissions stuff as that picture and i'm now using the carby from that thing on my '30.

For the x-member mod, basically its welding the auto member to the manual member - have a search "ke55 manual conversion" or something along those lines.

And if you wind up doing the conversion track down the 'box from a ke70 - that way the gear lever will stick up through the hole left from the auto shifter. But you'll have to make up some spacers or something to space the x-member down a bit from the car cause the '70's x-member is a little different to the '55 style and you (at least from what i've heard) can't swap x-members around. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?s...st&p=358122

My opinion of your first car - don't let your big plans get the better of you. Like, if it was me, i'd sooner spend the 700 bucks on a mig instead of a 700 dollar paint job that you can DIY yourself. You've nabbed yourself a pretty good car with learning the ins and outs of how it works, don't be afraid to get your hands dirty, remember google is your heartless friend. Ripped seats are nothing for seat covers to be placed over.

Oh and before i forget the auto is a Holden trimatic

I'm not to keen on engine mods but am considering swapping engine., depending on money flow in 3 months I will keep you upto date. I would muchrather 700 spent on paint job then anything else, Why have a car that goes 200ks if it looks like a piece of shit. at least this thing can do the speed limit and look good...soon

Ok update...I got my Master Cylinder today and Rear Chrome bumper for $100 which I thought was a score. I am really considering doing an engine conversion to a ca18. So if anyone is reading this and knows how to do this conversion please help. I will buy every part/tool and lunch you need but I just have no clue on how to do this or do i have the tools/time. thanks

not having a go mate, really just trying to help but its fairly obvious that at this stage you have a fairly limited mechanical knowledge so why not try an easy engine swap for the first time, 7K efi and 5 speed, theres volumes written in here about the transplant just search, changing engine manufacturers just makes things harder, ei radiartor outlets, clutch actuation, tailshaft, speedo drive, enginine mount positioning, master cyl clearances etc etc, sitting the motor in place is the easy part

Since you've done the research on the ca18 i guess you would have realised its not just a simple drop in but a good amount of custom work and not just to the engine x-member. And if your wanting to make it all legal and mod plated you would have learnt about a few upgrades as well and i know in Queensland here you'd also have to be on your opens.

Why have a car that goes 200ks if it looks like a piece of shit.

The other side to that is - Why have a car that looks as if it can do 200ks, but instead its sitting on the side of the road after traveling 200ks broken down because of poor maintenance...

I'll still stand by with what i said in that its a great first car.... learn from it

at least this thing can do the speed limit and look good...soon

I'll agree with you there - speed limit and looking tasty

Good luck with the build mate.

Nope don't know anyone with a car sized oven. Not something most people have

If you use acrylic an oven won't be neccesary. Acrylic is also more user friendly for DIY as you require less safety gear etc.
