Doogs Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 Plans sound good mate. ;) Looks to be pretty original and not have huge amounts of rust present, it's nice not to have to deal with previous dodgy repairs. Quote
Handiman Posted April 21, 2010 Author Report Posted April 21, 2010 Update! Had a few spare hours last night and pulled a few pieces off. Found some more rust but meh less than I expected! Stripped from the B pillar back apart from the tank and lines and one of the seat belt buckle bolts is jamming? Rusty or crap in the thread. Ill leave the glass till i can get some help from a friend who's done it before! :) Oh and I have found its had a panel repair apart from the obvious! Thanks for looking and for comments! Quote
Handiman Posted April 21, 2010 Author Report Posted April 21, 2010 strip that $hit handi andi  Ahh help with the glass!!!!! don't trust the woman! Ahahhahahah! Quote
Handiman Posted April 22, 2010 Author Report Posted April 22, 2010 Hi! More spare time tonight just pulled it down so it can still drive and yeah not much else! Rolla Tower! can't wait to get the glass out of it and get her done! Thanks! Quote
Handiman Posted April 28, 2010 Author Report Posted April 28, 2010 Hi everyone! Another few hours work and a bit more rust found! Got the glass out by myself. Dunno how its done but here is some pic's anyway. Rear first cause I was pretty sure it is original an not laminated. If I broke it i would have packed up! Got it in one piece! Cracked the front massive! Wasn't original, don't care laminated and didn't bend like the rear. Screw having to to that for a living..... oh yeah what am i talking about! My jobs just as bad!:) Got the roof lining out! F%*ked it up at the rear and got the front half out well. Was almost overrated before I touched it! Stripped the sound deadening out of the rear under where the rear seats would be. Thanks for looking! Any comments welcome, even if the are about being too rough! HAHAHA! Quote
Handiman Posted May 1, 2010 Author Report Posted May 1, 2010 Hello everyone! Got some more sound deadening out. Have relived the car of a few kilo's now! Spent a few hours today on the rear end finding what steel i have left. Just started hitting every rusty spot until there was only steel left........... or none! :P Have a few "issues" but they are only a few decent holes. Going to fire up the big sander tomorrow! Was only playing round today with the drill and a few different attachments like 3 different wire brush sizes and a wierd plastic sorta grinding disk. I still have no idea what I am doing! Still need to decide on what motor I want? Too many choices, K motors up to 7K, 4A Series including GZE and 20v, or the dark side NI san or wankell. HAHAHAHA Any ideas on the easy options people? Thanks for looking! :no2: Quote
Handiman Posted May 2, 2010 Author Report Posted May 2, 2010 Few hours spent today playing round, only got a bit of paint off and found a few dodge repairs! Is there a faster way of getting paint off or what? :) Hope to have better compressor and M.I.G. next week if I can find a decent price on both! Tried to use GF's old mans compressor today! What a F*%CKEN FAIL! Could not even drive a 6" orbital sander........HMM shitty old compressors going to the dump! HAHAHAHA! Quote
Doogs Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 For larger panels like that rear 1/4 give some paintstripper and a scraper a go. I have found that if you apply the paintstripper and then a layer of glad wrap it traps the fumes and strips the paint off more effectively. Once the paint has bubbled up take the glad wrap off and use a paint scraper/putty knife to scrape off the paint. You might need to give it two goes with the paint stripper (depending on how think the paint is). I then use a wire brush on an angle grinder or one of those "stripit" wheels to remove the remainder of the paint. Hope this helps. Good progress mate, Dougal Quote

I'm getting sick of little progress for time spent! Thanks again for your help! Quote
Handiman Posted May 9, 2010 Author Report Posted May 9, 2010 Finally got around to giving the paint stripper a go! Have been lazy this week. Have a few pics of the progress. So much faster and easier to strip the paint first! Also found that the car has definitely had a new roof at some stage. :hmm: You can see in the photo that the steel changes colour and consistency? All the pillars have the same colour change both sides A and C. :hmm: Thanks for looking! Quote
Undertaker_is_the_best Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 yea bud coming along real well look forward to reading more what colour are you going paint it Quote
Taz_Rx Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 A lot of older cars have the roof welded on at the tops of the pillars. You may have just found the stocko welds there. Quote
