MattyZ Posted July 14, 2010 Author Report Posted July 14, 2010 ok so 99% of this has been about my celica and not about my corolla so ill give you a bit more of an idea on what i have planned for it I will be keeping the body how it is just tidy it up, eg. repair the rust around the boot seal and inside the boot the only exterior change i will make is add a pair of chrome rectangle mirrors to the doors and order a white interior venetian blind rolling i might invest in a set of challengers or just run 14inch stock wheels with low profile tyres white walls engine wise, i will either go with a warm 5k duel carbs extractors pistons or a 5kze or te undecided yet. upgrade all the suspension brakes etc AE86 items but over all keep it sleeper but that might be hard with yellow in ya face paint, if it comes to it and its covered in primer patches ill respray it devil yellow and re apply the black pinstripe please let me know your thoughts and ideas on this Quote
MattyZ Posted July 15, 2010 Author Report Posted July 15, 2010 ok so today ive started to replace the left inner wheel arch, i started by removing the inner arch from my donor celica and cutting away the fat till i was left with what i needed shown below then i cut away the corner which the quarter panel bolts to at the bottom heres the rusted and the repair piece and repair piece held in place heres the nice tiny size hole left in the floor pan and inner gaurd i also have to replace the backing for the corner piece which was not rusted in the repair piece so i just cut it all out into one big section hopefully by the weekend i can have it all tacked up or fully welded in so i can rust prevent it and then wack some Por15 and sound deadner on the interior and exterior of it enjoy Quote
Jordain Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 Awsome, Keep the pictures coming! Got plenty of GB to burn :P Quote
MattyZ Posted July 15, 2010 Author Report Posted July 15, 2010 so i got it relatively lined up few gaps but nothing that can't be filled, with a sliver of metal. got it tacked now just need to finish the taking then go round till no more gaps use a linishing disk to grind the welds flush, wire wheel brush surrounding area and rest of inner guard and move onto replacing the metal section where the battery tray used to reside. Quote
MattyZ Posted July 19, 2010 Author Report Posted July 19, 2010 ok got the left inner guard all bare metal now, and the replacement patch it all in and welded up just need to grind welds flush and then i can start to replace the section where the battery tray is, once that is done the inner guard will be ready for a coat of rust preventative paint and then a coat of black sound deadner. ill get some pictures up today once ive done some more work slowly coming along nicely, I'm going to need to do a run to AJPS and get new clutch cylinder, rear sway bar, some springs and shocks for the front end. drop into autopro and order a 03-06 camry brake master cylinder. MattyZ Posted July 20, 2010 Author Report Posted July 20, 2010 so here's the pictures, grinded the arch to bare metal, and did finished doing the last bit of welding on the replacement section now i just need to grind it all relatively flush and bobs ya uncle finished that was gonna be one of the hardest part of this rebuild, the next hardest part will be to replace the parcel shelf and window seat or frame what ever ya wish to call it. MattyZ Posted July 20, 2010 Author Report Posted July 20, 2010 Sad part is that altho' excellent work, would've been soooo much easier with a better shell But you get what you get so, ++++ points for the effort ! yeah my donor had lest rust but it was in harder place to repair like numerous holes in the roof skin so I'm just gonna use the good parts from my donor wheres the fun if its easy hahaha. MattyZ Posted July 26, 2010 Author Report Posted July 26, 2010 got quite a bit more done, seam welded quite a bit of the front end, just need to do underneath, left passenger side is all baremetal inside, and the inner guard is all welded up. started to wire brush the light assembly get it ready for a coat of gloss black, since the headlights produce some heat, should i use heat paint for the long term or just go with rattle can gloss black? before after Quote
