TheNOBBLER[RL] Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 Another RC member with a forced fed K was recently speaking to me about doing a crazy re-build and changing their setup a bit. Mentioned running 30+psi. As I said to him there's really not too much point in running over around 25psi as the head just can't flow it. Darren will agree with me as IIRC it was him who originally told me about it. That would have to be Stu... the nutters getting ready to throw 25+psi at a 5k to see what happens. As for the head not flowing he has someone on that for him, the amount of headwork going into making it flow is nuts. Box wise hes going auto once the manual cries enough too. Should be fun! I will be giving the quater a bashing soon too in my 10, blown 5k should go reasonably well. JP Quote
7FOUR7 Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 what auto would one use behind a boosted 5k? Quote
SLW42 Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 Any auto you want mate, just a matter of a bellhousing to suit, i'd say turbo400, c4, heaven forbid even a btr from a falcon, anything really, even a power glide Quote
7FOUR7 Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 they are all such large boxes, you would think they would sap alot of power from the k engine as it wouldnt be making much anyway.. Hmm I'm interested as I have just put a deposit on a overrated (I mean overrated) ke20 and I plan on going boosted 5k and auto to have a crack at this title :P Quote
MRMOPARMAN Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 of course if moneys no object you could adapt anything to anything. in real life its not really practical / expensive to adapt some stuff to something rarely heavily modified such as a K motor. as for autos, i believe the 3 speed used in ke3x- is a baby trimatic? also used in geminis. if so people have modified them before to handle some good power. so that might be the go. if your a little more ambitious there may be a possibilty a K motor somewhere using the A34x series autos. i don't have any info on it yet but I'm looking. they would be a great auto to adapt, but may need floorpan mods in a corolla Quote
SLW42 Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 Yeah but as soon as you say auto, IMO i say loss of power and i know the top drag racers all have big auto's, but has anyone thought about a w5x box behind a k motor? Even an r154? I know t/a series boxes are strong, but not for long Quote

I would be seeing what you can do with the 3 speed from the KE3-5 series in terms of upgrades before going to anything like a TH box. The A40D from the AE71 might be worth a look too. Quote
Evan G Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 turbo 4k/5k with a trimatic and a big stall converter should be fun, if they tow around big holden boats they call the HQ they should be fine behind a 4k/5k Quote
7FOUR7 Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 Yeah well at this stage the plan is built 5k, t04 turbo or similar, carby, full manual auto with 4500-5000rpm converter, water injection and alot of boost :) Quote
SLW42 Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 My plan is stock 5k plus t28bb turbo, 12pounds of psi and see how long it lasts and how fast it goes in a ke70 :) Quote

Can tell you now you'll be well down the list. Fun doesn't start with a boosted K until about 15psi! As for the auto - Has nobody else thought about looking into getting an auto from a KR42R townace!? Quote

I've got one of those GM 3 speed auto's in my shed. Didn't bother with it for my 10 because then I would have to modify the mount, the tunnel and the drive shaft... might do it later if I kill the 2 Toyoglides I've got  Quote
7FOUR7 Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 could the toyoglide possibly be built to handle the power do you think? That would be ideal, 2spd with a 5k converter ;) Also, has anyone pushed the limits of stock rods yet? Just wondering if it would be worth getting the spool rods for the 5k or not? What are the advantages of a 4k head on the 5k? And how hard is it to come by an efi setup for one Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 (edited) You can buy EFI setups, I think they were off the 7K and some 5K's??? I'd rather stay as low tech as possible  Edited September 22, 2010 by 67Rolla-Ken Quote
