RollaRoyce Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 hi I own a 1984 Ke70 sedan. It drives perfectly for long distances untill you turn off the engine, then the car refuses to restart and when it does it constantly stalls and has zero acceleration. Even if you let the car sit still for a few hours it still doesn't work. However if you let the car "rest" overnight it is magically fixed and runs fine again untill u stop again. Noone has any idea what is wrong with it, the only thing i haven't done is try an exorcism. Can anyone help? Quote
kangaroosa Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 When was the last time you serviced it? - Spark plugs, leads, fuel filter, air filter....the works. Does the engine run Hot? Some people may suggest Fuel Vaporisation. Although leaving your car for a few hours to cool and it still didnt start may suggest its not that. Have you checked if the carby is getting fuel and pumping fuel into the manifold when you move the accelerator linkage? Have you cleaned the points (contact set) and reset the point gap? Check the Timing? Pull the coil lead off from where it plugs into the distributor and rest it near a metal object in your engine bay - then crank the engine over and see if it sparks? You may find that it has a weak spark. (mine did this years ago, and was fixed by replacing the coil). Quote
Super Jamie Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 it sounds heat related. i'd say vacuum leak, possibly manifold gasket Quote
coln72 Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 Check to make sure your needle and seat in the carby isn't sticking open. Pull off the aircleaner to see if any fuel is dribbling into the carby when the engine isn't running. Quote
RollaRoyce Posted August 1, 2005 Author Report Posted August 1, 2005 Hi Thanks for your help everyone. I have already checked the ignition ( Dwell, timing and there are a brand new set of leads on it). Fuel definately pu,ps into to the carby aswell. The car never seems to run hot, although the guage may be lying. I will try the needle and seat. Thanks Quote
Raven Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Mine did that one day. Ended up being the gasket had blown out from the manifold to Lynx Adaptor plate for the weber carb. I'd say vacuum leak myself. Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 try removing your gas cap when you park Quote
Raven Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Thats my gasket I mentioned earlier that blew out and caused massive vacuum leakage. Quote
