jimmy-d Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 ok,pls don't shoot me for what may be a silly question!!!Does anyone know of a manual gearbox with a high low selection that could be fitted into a ke70 without going to 4X4 so would still be 2 wheel drive, rear wheels only with high low range box.. Bamboo Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 considering the amount of sierras with k motors, i'd start there. it'd be tricky and you'd have to seal off the front tailshaft hole. And mess with the floorpan. The good thing is the transfer case is seperate from the box with a mini tailshaft connecting it to the box. Quote

You wouldn't have to seal the front driveshaft, just don't bolt a tailshaft to it. Good luck fitting it under the floor though!!! Quote
jimmy-d Posted April 12, 2010 Author Report Posted April 12, 2010 Thanks for the info guys, are you talking suzuki sierra?will have to find one and have a look. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 Yeah mate suzuki....... or Maruti! :bash: Quote
Toy-Yoda[RL] Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 I think the most important thing is to ask why you'd want to do this in the first place? 1st gear on 13's with regular road tires is generally enough to get you pretty much anywhere if you have a locker and enough determination..... Either that or go with Si's old theory: "More Speed" :bash: Quote

Dunno about that lol. I reckon it'd be quite handy. I've been stuck down the bottom of hills in my bush basher 30 where I've had to ride the shit outa the clutch to get out. Couldn't hit it flat out because of the creek before it lol. But I suppose that problem could also be fixed with a 7k :bash: Quote
seabiscuit Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 My tyres either spin or the hill is too steep. Selecting a low gear won't achieve too much in a RWD. Why not get a 4WD? As you say it is only a paddock basher, so you won't be spending a LOT of time making it a "lovely Corolla"... Unless you want to :bash: Quote
Old fella Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 G`day mate, lotsa years ago a mate made a buggy with two gearboxes in line. He used old holden three speeds but you could use anything. Picture a four speed k box in tandem with a three or four speed. It will give you the lowest gear range you have ever heard of and for cheap as chips too and you will still be able to select high gears for the mandatory donuts in the dirt.. You might want to lock your diff too. Good luck with the build, Old Fella. Quote
towe001 Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 G`day mate, lotsa years ago a mate made a buggy with two gearboxes in line. Its a good rock crawling trick as well Quote
MRMOPARMAN Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 i think it would almost be easier buying a rolled suzuki sierra, strip the drivetrain outta the rolla, weld some body mounts, make it steer, mod the wiring etc. Quote

Unless you want to  You'd be suprised what you can do in a Corolla with fat tyres on the back and really low pressures. Why not? Or am I missing something? :bash: It's sorta hard to explain but the front digs in and if you hit it too fast it would be very unpleasant for the car and for myself lol and you can't really hit it at an angle. Also get a shitload of water in the dizzy lol. Quote
Toy-Yoda[RL] Posted April 13, 2010 Report Posted April 13, 2010 Ahh, easy fix for that, remove the dizzy cap, use vaseline around where the cap meets the body of the dizzy, and cable tie it down nice and tight..... Use some vacuum hose to direct the carby intake away from any sources of water..... Find some springs from a coil sprung 4X4, trim them only enough to fit in the front struts (using a spring compressor) and fit them up, that'll solve the front end bottoming out, use uncut Falcon springs in the rear, and a pair of 13X6 wheels wearing 205's, run them about 20-24 Psi and you'll be set to go about anywhere with a big handful of speed :bash: Quote
