Dggodo Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Heya guys I'm new, and i have had trouble with my car, and my mate sent me this site to ask you guys for your advise =] i have a Toyota corolla 1991 sedan, and something odd has happened to one of the doors, the open door light always stays on. Now for now i have taken out all the globes to help prevent draining the battery. How ever power still went up to the globe in the dash. And now i have to jump start the car everything as it drained the battery as i drove my pulsar for a few months there. Now we went to U pull it and took those connector/buttons that the door obviously pushes in to say the door is properly closed. My mates replaced the two front ones for me while i was at work one time as we thought it was on of them, However the problem didn't go away. So they though it might be the back left on, now i figure if i just cut it of and fix it later it will break the circuit and then the light will go away how ever this was not the case. Do any of the know what that problem may be why the circuit wasn't broken, Has this every happened to you or a friend and how did you or they fix it? Quote
jono1986 Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 (edited) ah...from that you've said that you've replaced both the front door switches, yeah? when he installed them did he give them a good clean, i mean between the switch and the body, and that light is controlled from ALL the switches, so i'd check the back ones as well. Just take all the switches out of the car and see if it turns off, the switch works by putting earth onto the wire at the back of the switch, if the globe doesn't turn off then, you'll have a short to ground somewhere in the circuit. But in my experience 90% of the time it's the switches. Edited April 1, 2010 by jono1986 Quote
eberbs Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) I assume its a AE92, I own a 1988 AE92 and the door switch doesn't work at all, the light works in the on position, but in the door position it will not go on with all the doors open but when any of the doors are open the "open door" light comes on. Not sure what the issue is, i cleaned the contacts of the mechanical switch on the light but no luck. Edited April 2, 2010 by eberbs Quote

That's slightly more complicated, the simplest thing i can think of is dirty contacts in the light switch itself, or they are loose. I guess checking the continuity of the door switch wire to the light would be another thing to check. Quote

Yah sprayed some contact cleaner on the switch (little metal ball that rolls accross the contacts) and wiggle the crap out of it and nothing, might borrow a multimeter and do the continuity like you suggested.
