project_KE55 Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 This is really nice, well done on so much progress, its always the finishing details that hold you back. I hope you get it all sorted out soon mate. :D cheers, Mark. Quote
silverra23 Posted October 7, 2010 Author Report Posted October 7, 2010 Its high time I got on and finished the old girl isn't it! Perhaps my target needs to be Hanging Rock 2011!! I have very little left to do... it comes down to needing some final dollars so that I can install the engine once and do it right... Really all that is left on the to do list is install 18rg and solexes with rodger's cable throttle kit install 5 speed and hydraulic clutch paraphernalia fit new clutch reco radiator fit xt130 struts do something about the ride height that hasnt settled enough to look good And it should be on the road... Its just having the last $$ for the clutch and radiator that is holding me up.. and a lack of time. Oh and I just bought a new house with a big shed, so that is going to be a show stopper for the next few months I suspect.... anyways... enough excuses already.... here is a pic of the engine ready to go... albeit I want to paint the rocker cover. I hope that image works.. for some reason imageshack has now made it into the banned list at work too :( Quote
ke70dave Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 my goodness what a nice car well done mate. gonna be a very nice package when you get it complete. keep the photos rolling. Quote
78_7kRolla Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Looking good Adam ;) Considered a crinkle finish for the rocker cover? Quote

silverra23 Posted November 15, 2010 Author Report Posted November 15, 2010 Well with a workshop free of race cars, I decided last weekend was prime time for doing the engine change in the Celica! Thursday night the guys helped me whip out the old engine in under an hour... many hands, beer and a hoist make light work! Then Friday night the boys helped me give the engine bay a really good clean and it came up great. Lots of kudos to Loctite Natural Blue degreaser... I then painted the cross member flat black as we took off most of the paint with the degreaser and pressure washer :) I then spent Saturday and Sunday fitting everything up... engine was in Saturday night... Sunday was fitting carbs, plumbing things, wiring things etc etc... didn't quite make my Sunday afternoon fire up as planned, but its close. Big thanks to Matt for stopping buy and lending a hand too... and doing a quick dash to Repco when I needed it most! Couple of niggles I need to sort: 1. Clutch only starts to give some pressure near the floor... not sure if it needs more bleeding, or an adjustment at the pedal. I have run out of adjustment on the pushrod... so hopefully will fiddle some more tonight and get it better. 2. Battery was flat so I couldn't get it running... hopefully it charges up today and it will be all good. 3. My gearstick is awfully close to the dash in 1/3/5 gears. I will take it out and try it the other way, but I am pretty sure I already put it in with the bend pointing away from the dash. Are there different sticks for different Toyotas? This isn't the stick that came with the box... it was a god awful shortened thing.. so I sourced a separate stick from someone here years ago..... Anyways pics tell the story... Dodgy gearstick? Oh and in other news I worked out why the front of the car was not sitting at a "lowered" height... got done by another set of standard height king springs sold as "lows" second hand... grrrr... so need to acquire some king lows for the front at some point soon. Quote
78_7kRolla Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Your welcome anytime Adam although 'lending a hand' is a bit of a stretch! This car looks so good in person and so well done too. Great work Adam :) Quote
silverra23 Posted November 15, 2010 Author Report Posted November 15, 2010 Update... clutch sorted... New issue - no idle mixture screws in my rebuilt carbys.. think they have been left out accidentally :( Anyways I got it to briefly fire tonight so happy days!! Quote
