Evan G Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) so it doesn't spin when you use a screw driver across the terminals? try giving it a little tap tap tap a roo with a hammer does it get hot? when my starter motor went, it literlly cooked it, it was to hot to touch 20mins later :D is it a manual? jono1986 Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 try the tapping thing while someone has it in the crank position, if it starts you have an open circuit somewhere. Don't know about your car but for a 3k starter rebuild the previous owners paid 200 bucks, so take it out and get a rebuild kit from an auto electrical joint and do the rebuild yourself, otherwise you could get a second hand one, but because of the design of some k series exhaust systems it will need re-doing anyway. Taz_Rx Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Has the battery also been sitting for 6 months? :D Quote
philbey Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 Prick of a spot? You've not worked on many starters before? K engine starter is one of the easiest to remove that I've worked on LOL Anyway, sounds like your solenoid is knackered if you're not getting it to spin up - Solenoid is a mechanical switch that connects the current for the actual motor to spin, so if it doesn't kick out, you don't get current to the actual motor. Andy43 Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Bet ya its the brushes, The solder joints have a habit of melting, If you go down to your local auto elec he can sell you some new ones for about 15 bucks, or take the starter there and you will pay over 200, Just be sure if the starter type as could be a bosh or nippion, the nippons are shorter and easy to get out.
