Hayy there Every one.. So i Recently purchased a Ke20, With no intent to what so ever.

How i Got such a car:

I was at a car meet, standing taking photos of a Immaculate original White Ke20. When A Guy said, Is this yours? I said no but i wouldn't mind owning something this clean.. And he said I have one for sale, I said how much.. he said $$ a few hundred, I said what condition. Complete he said Jut a few Things to Fix.. I said SOLD. Payed the next day picked up today ;)

May i just start buy saying, I have NEVER, EVER looked at a corolla and thought ill own one of them one day. Or Even, Taken notice of one on the streets. So by this I'm basically saying, I couldn't tell you One thing about the ke20 and be sure of it.. I don't even know what year model it is... Will Check it out Tomorrow Arvy, as i was at work till late and had a shoot on tonight.

Here are some Pic's..(Sorry for The Few Bad quality, These were taken on my phone)

Plans:

Strip All panels and Doors, boot and bonnet. Spend about half a hour each day at work (lunch break) Sanding, Removing rust, And Primer on each part.. For as long as it takes each part.

Once i know there is no rust to be seen, I will Start Redoing the interior, Complete New but same style.. Maybe just different materials, and a few things here and there.

Then the engine, Rebuild. Depending on what other mods i can do.. just small cam, Carburetors, Exhaust, And maybe some bottom end work? Any ideas. Has to remain the standard engine as I'm a P-plater.

Then paint, And assembly.. then DRIVE.

Will be a Cruiser for about 12 months, the after that... will go serious with engine mods.

Questions:(remember I'm a Complete Noob to these cars.)

1. The tachometer is in MPH, and has had Km markings written on the plastic. I didn't think cars in Australia even old models were released With MPH? Is this normal?

2.How Can i tell what Engine is what? 3k, 4k?? I need to make sure the engine with it is the right one, as i can't drive with a different motor.. (Will post some pics of it tomorow)

Welcome to RollaClub. You will soon become a Corolla nut. It's hard not too when you own a classic Rolla such as your 20. Soon enough you shall have another Rolla and maybe another after that. ;)

The speedo being in MPH is not uncommon for early cars in Oz. Most of the cars I have owned have had MPH speedo's but they have all been from the mid to late 60's. I predict your 20 is early 70's but I am no KE20 expert. Someone here will know for sure.

As for engine..... you may have to clean up a bit, but on the drivers side there should be a tag on the side of the motor starting with either 3k or 4k..... then the rest of the engine number. That shall tell you what you have.

Nice pickup mate. A friend is a p plates and his done some research into the engine thing.

you can increase you engine capacity by up to 15% as long as you don't require an engineering certificate for things like engine mounts etc.

So ide guess it came out with a 3k ~1200cc but you could put a 4k in ~1300cc and still be allowed to drive it. Thats in NSW btw....don't know where your from.

"Any vehicle with engine performance modifications requiring an engineer’s certification for registration purposes is banned under the prohibited vehicle scheme."

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/gettin...r/p1p2faqs.html

you can do any "minor" mods on your car and still drive it with p's http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/dow...ns_nov_2007.pdf

This might all be irrelevant in your state though

Thanks mate, Its a 4k motor. Not the original motor, So I'm going to have some Fun on track with the car and engine while i buy a 3k. I still haven't checked what year model yet, will have a look soon.

so wait let me gets this straight, battery cable to starter motor,

there should be 2 wire plug connecting half way in the battery cable thats the alternator charging wire

there should be a small wire that connects to the starter motor solenoid (oppisite the battery cable) that the signal wire to tell the starter motor to start.

hope this helps, if it doesnt gimme a picture

you can find the other end of the random wire?

i reckon don't worrie about it for the time being, do it last when you can run the engine and all electrical items and see what doesnt work

It All ran yesterday, Everything was fine, and i remember it was connected to something.

Now it wont even Click or anything to try start.

I'm looking at getting it Running so i can take it out soon.

The wire starts and end There, I can't find were it goes... no loose wire, Or plug that would fit into the weird Orange thing at the end..

check this please or take a pic

postive of the battery goes straight to the starter motor,

now there should be thin another wire on starter motor aswell this gives the signal to start check if it has one/or if its connected
