yohan18 Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 hey guys where abouts does your temp guage sit at when you drive? is it abnormal for it to sit about half way on the temp gauge? cheers matt Quote
Evan G Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 well my temp gauge shows half way (my aftermarket digital gauge shows 80 degrees) when its like 38 gauge shows 3/4 (digital shows 88) perfectly normal please don't think you have a overheating problem and spends hundreds on radiator/waterpump/ head gasket when its a dodgy temp gauge. best $50 ive ever spent! irokin Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 Overheating a K? pfft I wouldn't even worry until its boiling over. Once you know where the boiling point is you get a pretty good feel for how hot your engine is compared to every day temps. A K motor will take a lot of overheating before bad shit happens. Mine overheated pretty much every day for a year or so before I could be bothered fitting a new radiator and the motor still runs just as good as it did before. That said, on most KE70 temp gauges I've seen they start to boil around the halfway to second mark (3/4 I guess) so its possible its a little warm. It could be completely fine too. Quote

Dropz Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 when i bought mine with the standard clutch fan, completely stock it sat at 1/2 to 3/4 on a hot day, but it was low in water. once i topped up the level it sat at the first mark (1/4) and never moved until i installed an electric fan, now it sits below 1/4 so i always turn it off, i leave it unless it hits half way, then flick the fan on til its at about 1/4. never had any issues with boiling or anything. my owners manual states that anywhere from 1/4-3/4 is normal operating temp depending on driving conditions and ambient temperature. so i guess if your sitting at lights idling non stop on hot days or hammering it up in the hills expect to see temps of 1/2 to 3/4 as it wont be able to cool that quickly. if you can keep it at, or below the halfway mark (if your gauge is accurate) then you'll be fine. if you are truly worried about it, get an aftermarket one as suggested. Grand Master of Awesome Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 ...are you using coolant? or just water.. Quote
Dropz Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 i use tectaloy 100plus. when i first got the car it was yummy rusty water. thats when it was reading 1/2 - 3/4 and was down about 1-2litres. Quote
Grand Master of Awesome Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 was directed at OP as well $6 autobarn premix <3 haha Quote
Dropz Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 lols. i get the tectaloy stuff from a tectaloy factory near tradeschool. as a local apprentice they charge me about half price, cash only though. ;) love it. can get a 5l bottle of 100plus for 20, 5l bottle of 90 plus for 15, and the cheapo 60 shit for $10. all premixed. i stock up on about $100 worth of coolant each time I'm at tradeschool, only buy the 90 and 100 (100plus for me, 90 for everyone else lol). use it for my car, parents and bro's and mates. sell it to them for couple bucks more than what i pay and its all good  Quote
yohan18 Posted March 24, 2010 Author Report Posted March 24, 2010 I'm not to worried about it I was just curious to where yours all sat. But yea I guess it wouldn't hurt grabbing a second temp gauge as you said. Cause my ke is running a solid fan should I think about getting a thermo fan?? Like when I sit on 100kms it starts to creep up but that's only cause it's constantly reving. But true it does depend on the ambient temp as well. But thanks for the info guys great help cheers matt Quote
yohan18 Posted March 24, 2010 Author Report Posted March 24, 2010 ...are you using coolant? or just water.. and yes I run coolant I'm not a dumb arse ahaha what trade school you go to?? Quote
Instigator Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 Anyone know what 4ages are supposed to sit at? I recently rebuilt my bigport and had some hassles with wiring the thermo back up so have left it off for now. Sits at 1/4 when moving, up to half when stopped and on hot days. Going to put an aftermarket gauge in soon but it seems to be running ok.. Quote

Sounds about normal, id get the thermo wires up again just for when you're stopped on hot days, but its coming up to Winter so you wouldnt be in that much of a hurry. Quote
