KE ping it real Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 (edited) Ok So i havent been on here in a while as i have been torrying around for a while as some of you know but the financial crunch got the better of me and i was forced to sell up I Then decided i really wanted a revvy 4 banger again for a bit of fun driving (and something i could park anywhere without worrying) Soooooo an early birthday present from the wife got me this gem Needs some paint work mainly on the roof & bootlid interior is pretty damn good (tacho dash FTW) but it runs and drives like i just picked it up from the dealership Not a powerhouse (4af woohoo) but its not too bad up in the rev range and very responsive So plans for now include Blue slip & rego respray roof & bootlid & pop out ding in drivers gaurd for now respray & fit rear wing from ebay (factory version not ricer special) And then in a couple of months Fit full pedders suspension setup New rims & tyres Fit Cd player speakers e.t.c New window tint (is done now but a shite job) possibly new exhaust but will see And then even further down the track 20v or ze implant It will be my daily for a while until i get some actual power in there and then will reside to weekend duties Anyway enough chatter, a few pics Edited April 3, 2010 by KE ping it real Quote
KE ping it real Posted March 30, 2010 Author Report Posted March 30, 2010 Well i got my blue slip yesterday first go woohoo The wife has ordered me some personal plates so i'm gonna wait till they arrive before i register it I am going to start prepping the car for paint today and hopefully get some primer on the roof etc Then with luck i will get it painted on the weekend I also bought a bigport redtop for it as well (for a steal)which i may or may not rebuild before i put it in. I do plan on turbo ing it at a later stage so i might put it in and pull it out for rebuild later when i decide to boost it I will post pics of the progress later this arvo Quote
KE ping it real Posted March 31, 2010 Author Report Posted March 31, 2010 Well we had a pretty good day considering. Went and picked up paint and a whole lot of other gear and then got to work masking up to strip the roof & boot Paint stripper was being a bicth it took 3 coats and still didnt penetrate all the way so we got the sander out to finish off polled most of the mouldings off and found 20 years worth of crud After that we applied wax n grease remover and put rust converter on the roof Roof is Back to bare metal and it looks awesome And we decided the roof is going to look so good we are going to respray the whole car this weekend The majority will be just rubbed & scuffed up a bit and then full 2-pack respray yo Anyway here is a few photos of progress today with more to follow tomorrow Quote
KE ping it real Posted April 2, 2010 Author Report Posted April 2, 2010 My new plates, ordered & paid for Let me know what you think Quote
xmoht Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Loving this mate! What colour you going to go for? I have an AE92 as a daily, they're great cars. These look absolutely great when they're done up, but never seen one with a 20 valve 4AGE! Very keen to watch the progress! :D Quote
KE ping it real Posted April 2, 2010 Author Report Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) Hey mate going to keep it factory ice green except many coats of colour & 2 pack clear bring out the shine factor Yeah this one runs like a dream too bit slow atm but i'll work on that. Had the 20v in a hatchback version about 10 years ago Car is getting rubbed tomorrow dry then wet then spraying on Sunday morning Will be posting plenty of pics another couple of months it will be lowered and i'll get a set of 16's for it Will be my daily in a few months after i sell my ute Edited April 2, 2010 by KE ping it real Quote
KE ping it real Posted April 3, 2010 Author Report Posted April 3, 2010 Well we had an extremly productive day yesterday, got the whole car wet rubbed back then spent a good three hours masking up and decided we'll just spray it now so up in the garage till 10;30pm and we got 5 coats of colour and 3 coats of clear I have to say it looks pretty damn good for a backyerd job. I can't take much credit though as it was my mate Graham who did 90% of the work I will take some more photos once we strip off the tape and put all the bits and pieces back on We still have to spray the wing on monday (which is in the first pic) and i will also respray the wiper arms and window frames black as i'm sure they are going to look pretty dull with the paint looking so new Quote
Ben-89 Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 Wow great progress mate! Keep up the good work, such a transformation in little time. Are you putting all the spirit striping and rub strips back on, or are you leaving it as is once painted? Good job :D Quote
KE ping it real Posted April 4, 2010 Author Report Posted April 4, 2010 Thanks mate I'll be leaving the strips off i think, looks a bit sleeker without unless i come across a nice set of chrome ones that match the top mouldings Definately looking forward to seeing it all put back together with the wing on as well Then i just need to find nsome nice new rims and lower it Quote
xmoht Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 You are a fast worker! Lookin' absolutely schmiko! You're definitely going to have to get some Youtube footage of this beast when it's running with the 20 valve. Quote
KE ping it real Posted April 4, 2010 Author Report Posted April 4, 2010 I can't take too much credit, the guy in all the photos is my mate Graham he was a panelbeater for 10 years Quote
KE ping it real Posted April 5, 2010 Author Report Posted April 5, 2010 A few more photos unmasked and with mouldings lights etc back on Still need to spray & fit the wing and respray wiper arms and door window frames Quote
